Good Evening,
I was wondering if the door latch strikers on a 1972 Road Runner are painted or natural?
Thanks.
Jeff

Striker and latch & hardware were installed well after painting at the factory, any painted strikers, latch and fasteners happened after the fact and is not original for any Mopar of the era.

What about hood deck lid strikers? I've always known these to be painted body color. Lock/latch mechs were clear zinc, correct?

all trunk strickers ive seen are painted, furthermore eric had some interesting pics on his survivor car showing the bolts for the trunk latch painted and all trunk latches ive seen have been the silver zinc. as for the hood ive always understood pop up spring is installed post paint and normally a black finish, the latch plate and striker are installed pre paint and body color. as for the hood latch i had read that over the counter replacements were zilver zinc finished but originals were plated with a bronze color material, of course all hood latches ive seen were so old that the were covered in years of road grime and a lot have paint overspray from repaints and a lot of redone cars are painted and or coated back to silver. my car was a green car and has an outside release mechanism. i tried cleaning through the grime on the latch and was unable to make any determinations for myself about original finish, however on the pull rod for the machanism i was able to find that in the rear facing part of the bend were it would be protected the most over the years, as i cleaned it up it did appear to have a bronze color under the dirt and stuff after i finished cleaning it. also i purchased a second hood latch from gary on this site because the rod was not pitted near the top like mine was i came to the same result on the pull rod and on the one from him kindof looked bronze around the rivits after cleaning. as for the plated latches ive also read that they were plated in seperate peices before the latches were assembled so originally they had two or three different shades of the silver zinc plating on individual latches.

Eric my car has two of the same things as yours. The wrinkles between the quarters and the roof. We fixed that though. I have the same floor mats. Question, the one in your the passenger floor has that extra side pice, could that mat be for a C body and that was supposed to be trimmed off for smaller cars? That mat was on the drivers side when I got my car from the original owner, and I thought maybe it was to be trimmed when there was a floor shift.

The mats in my car are actually reproductions I purchased several years ago. I cut them to the shape that I thought best covered the carpet with not much concern for originality (since they are not exactly what you would have gotten from the dealer with your new vehicle). You're probably correct that this would be the correct cut for the larger C bodies.

WOW,
Thanks for the great discussion and fabulous pictures too. So mostly not painted is the way it appears? The picture of the "door jamb /rocker factory build quality" is amazing. I guess there were some issues.
Again Thanks,
Jeff
