Wonder how many 1972 Roadrunners still exist
New Roadrunner nest member. I just purchased a 1972 Roadrunner with a 340 (E55) with a 4spd (D21). I was amazed when I looked up the production numbers to find only 329 were produced with this drivetrain combo. Being you had to pay 65.00 extra for the 340 option and 212.00 for the 4spd option and 242.00 for the Automatic I started to see why. Wonder if the 3spd came with a pistol grip shifter? I started a spread sheet on the 1972 Roadrunners to see how many still exist. Collected near 90 vin # with there options. Must be the 3spd cars were the first to go. Out of the 90 I only found 2. Just wondering if anyone keeps records on these cars.

Re: Wonder how many 1972 Roadrunners still exist
Welcome to the Nest!
I have been tracking 71 and 72 cars for close to 10 years now. For 72 340 road runners, I currently have 62 cars about half 4spd and half auto...one 3spd. Of the 200+ cars for 72 (all engines) I have 6 3spds.
The 3spd did not come with a pistol grip.

Re: Wonder how many 1972 Roadrunners still exist
Hi Eric, I traded my 69 GTS Dart for it and I'm real happy with the car. The Roadrunner has a cool factor where no one except mopar guys knew what a GTS was. I'll have to figure out how to add pictures. My road wheels need some attention first. The car is a strong 3. Sharp looking FE5 Rallye red paint (I restored this car for the guy three years ago and he never took it out of the garage). D6WX interior with console, tach that doesn't work and a full white vinyl top. Bought brand new here in Las Vegas Nevada in 1972 and has never left the state.
Obviously you know that the N96 option, unless you bought a 340 wasn't available in California and also if you wanted A/C. A/C is a must here in Nevada as well as Arizona. Air-Grabbers were probably far and few out west is my guess. Looks like the FE5 was very popular color to order.
Do you know a good place to send the Tach for repairs?
Like I said I have a spread sheet. Don't know if I can add to your records but I can send it to you. My car hasn't been registered since 1988.
Take care,
Paul

Welcome to the Nest!
There are no numbers of how many 3 speed manual trans for 1972 since it was standard equipment.
The number breakdowns we have are for optional equipment.
Mopar wanted to know what sold well.
Post a picture of your 72!
FE5 red was the 4th most popular color.

Re: Wonder how many 1972 Roadrunners still exist
Thanks for the welcome! When I first got it I thought maybe the red was somewhat rare. Then I notice I was way off there. What was the most popular color?
I'll pull it out this weekend and take a picture. I have the steering column dropped down and the dash cluster out as I was checking why the Tach isn't working. I ordered some new wheels since the original road wheels are not looking so hot. So over look those!
Trouble with desert cars interiors and paper petrify out here. Found the build sheet under the seat in about thirty little pieces. I was able to put most of it back together and put it in a frame.
Is there a production number of how many 72 Roadrunners came with Air conditioning?

I'd love to have your spread sheet information to add to my records. Unfortunately, I cannot share the VIN info I have, as many have given me their info with the understanding that it is confidential. I am happy, however, to share production numbers for cars I have.
I'll send you a PM with my email address.

Eric help me in how to send you a private message since I'm confused how to do so. I'll send you the rest of the Vin number for your records and I'll get a copy of what I have to you.

Most popular color... Well you gave me a clue that FE5 was fourth. Makes my 90 car spread sheet a mystery since mine leans that way. Your EV2 was up there I believe. Seems white and Black were not ordered much. I'll guess;
GY8
EV2
FY1
FE5
Did my Fantasy football team today as well and was rated last so I can take it. WRONG!
