Decoding Clarification

Post by wejewill » Tue Mar 19, 2013 6:38 pm

I noticed in the 10/10/12 post by ahmincha "1972 Satellite Sebring Post" that the roof code V4X is for a black canopy vinyl roof. The broadcast sheet for my '72 Road Runner has V4X for the Roof-Pnt Style Top. My vin code is RM23 (2-door hardtop). Is it likely that my original roof was a black vinyl canopy?

Also the coding for paint color is different on my broadcast sheet and my vin plate. The broadcast sheet has Body Paint GA4 (apparently Winchester Gray Poly) and my vin plate has GY8 (gold leaf poly). When I purchased the car, the engine bay and trunk appeared to be gold leaf poly. I haven't seen any gray paint on the car. I found the broadcast sheet, dry rotted and crumbling, under the rear seat, so I am pretty sure it is the broadcast sheet for this vehicle, but am confused as to why there would be discrepencies between it and the vin plate.

I'd also like to know if there is coding for the grill inset.

Thanks for any help,
Jeff

Can you read the entire VIN on the broadcast sheet? Many times sheets where mixed up in seatbacks at the factory. The one you have may be for a different car.
