Good web forum for a 69 GTX? This is my ONLY Mopar Forum!

Post by 72 RR fan » Tue Sep 21, 2010 5:47 pm

I'll be a little lost on this one. What is a good board to resource info etc on a 69 GTX. I've only come here. Obviously this is a great forum. Never have I been let down or felt out of place here.

I bought a 69 GTX that I'm going to build into a beater/barn-find type driver for fun.

I do not know much about the earlier B bodies, any advise on what board to join for that car?

I don't know of any off hand, but I would suggest simple Google searches using things like 1969 GTX forum (no I'm not being a smartass) or search for a specific question you have for the car. Google is good at bringing up the most relevant searches first so browse through the links and check them out. You may not find a specific GTX forum but lucky for you, the GTX that year was pretty much the same as all B-bodies so even a Charger forum may be a good place to start.

Here is a promising prospect: http://www.forbbodiesonly.com/

Great looking find by the way!

I'll second the http://www.moparts.com and the http://www.forbbodiesonly.com.

Moparts is fairly strictly policed and you can't swear, talk politics, etc there and that rubs some people wrong. But there are a LOT of good Mopar guys there. You just have to sift through the chaff...

Cool. Thanks for the advise. I figured it was better to ask here rather than the trial and error method. I don't get a lot of computer time right now, so this really helps. I kinda answered a number of my questions through looking at pics, doing searches, and looking at catalogs, but of course there is a lot more that I need to know.

Here, pretty much the information I usually need is found in the forums if you look.

'Course I still have my 71 & 72 yall aren't rid of me.

BTW....many thanks to Frank who is "wildcatcreekmotors" here on the boards. Frank is who I bought the car from. He always has really cool Mopar projects for sale in the N. Ga. area. Not to mention parts!

A beater for fun? Well, unless there's a lot of those running around in your area that are accepted. You better develop thick skin. As I know guys who have inherited cars that are beaters. Their relatives parked them because they didn't have the money to fix them up. Take one of those to a car cruise, or car show out here in southern California, and you have to put up with generally two kinds of comments. One, "How much do you want for it?" or, "When are you going to restore it?" In other words. They won't let you enjoy it as is, and bad mouth you to the rest of the people there. Which eventually results in the new owner putting it back in the garage. As they finally got tired of the comments. If I was rich, and could have a collection of Mopars. A '69 GTX would be one of them. Probably the most amusing story I have on one. Is this classmate who graduated from my high school had one. He was always pointing out the fact that his was a "GTX," and mine was just a '69 RR; translation: cheaper. One night he asked if he could sit in my RR, as he had never been in one. "Sure, go for it." He wasn't in my car 2 minutes, and came flying out, madder than a hatter. I asked what was wrong. "YOUR car has a 150 mph speedo!" "Yeah, so, doesn't yours have that too?" NO!!! So I asked if I could look in his car. Sure enough. It only had a 120 MPH speedo. Workers must of been asleep at times. As a '69 GTX normally comes with a 150 MPH, and the '69 RRs came normally with a 120 MPH speedo. How mad was he? He traded it in the next week for a new yellow '70 Camaro Z28. Bad move on his part. I beat it!

Oh yes...thick skin I have. It wouldn't bother me one bit to get laughed at, or what not. On my way back from picking it up, we stopped by a car cruise night. It turned many a head just because of the body damage and roughness. A couple of people caught me before I left and asked what I wanted for it, but of course I'm not selling. I told 'em I was going to drive it as-is after the mechanical resto. It made for a laugh, but in good fun. This car could easily have been parted out. So it gets a new lease on life, I have fun, and it can be cosmetically restored later if I choose.

BTW..great story on the GTX / RR / Camaro....Ha-ha I love old Mopar stories!

I'm one of those crazies who believe cars have personalities and minds of their own,and yours, well its sorta like that old war hero that's been beat up with scars and has an interesting history behind each one of them.

72 RR fan- Heres a post over on FBBO. I've been looking/watching this thread. This member has 69 RR. Its a long thread but well worth it. The car dont look to shabby on the outside but theres plenty of rust issues and the transformation would inspire you or anyone dealing with all of the issues this member has to deal with. Take a look... :)
