Sunroof production numbers?

Post by 1carcrazyguy » Sun Sep 30, 2007 10:23 pm

Anyone have production figures on 71 and 72 Plymouth Sat/RR/GTX with sunroof?

How hard is it to find parts for this setup?? Would it be hard to find a replacement sunroof panel?? How hard is it to service this set-up? I don't know if the car is a Sat/RR/GTX as of yet either. But I did get a lead on one that is missing the sunroof (factory M51 code) and all the parts to the setup.

Thanks for the list, but I did not see any 72 production figures anywhere? Also I am wondering if finding all the parts to make the sunroof complete again might be like hunting the needle in a haystack. I believe this car is a 72 Satellite that I am looking at. Of course that is just from the description that I was told. The person that mentioned the car said it has full loop bumper, raised clearance lights and a chrome trim down the side that goes over the wheel well area. Sure sounds like a 72 to me. I just would like to find out how much the sunroof parts might set me back, IF they are to be found.

Dave may know more sunroof production figures (sunroof cars are kinda his thing). Maybe PM him if he doesn't chime in here

Well I am at a loss....the car I was told about has a factory style slide-back sunroof. However the option is not listed on the option tag???? And from the looks of the car I would say the chance of the roof being a replacement is out of the question. But with the option not being listed on the tag I would hate to spend the money to restore the car. I know that if someone saw it at a show and looked at the tag they would say it was not a "real" car. Is it normal to have an option like a sunroof left off the tag?? I know most of the time the option codes for the wheels got left off but something like a sunroof????

M51 wasn't coded on all tags/all plants. Better way to know, look at the VON, it should start with "G"

I don't think they are there, but let me check when I get home my white book for 72-74 and see if it has any production numbers for the sunroof cars. Parts aren't the easiest to come by... cables are the main wear item, and they are not reproduced at this point. There was a guy in CO that used to have some decent used ones, but last I heard he was sold out. The "good" news with them is that they were a standard sunroof for ASC, and were used on Mopars and quite a few GM products as well - so there is at least some hope of finding parts.

Alaskan, I do have an an extra 21" door cassette assembly that might have the brace you are looking for. Though getting it from here to Alaska wouldn't be a cheap adventure.

I would hate to break up a complete setup.

There are two roof braces if I remember right? If so, I need them both. I need the one that loops around the outside of the cassette and the one that replaces the roof brace that the dome light attaches to in non-sunroof cars.

I have a freight forwarder in Seattle WA that can ship large items to me via barge, so the shipping cost is no big deal.

Thanks guys,
Barry

Barry,

I'm not sure exactly what parts you are looking for. Don't worry about breaking a set though. I used parts out of this one already for the sunroof install in Project Blue Bird.

Do you still have my phone number? If so, give me a call some evening next week and we can talk through what exactly it is you are after, and see if this setup has it.

Oh, and I did check, the white book doesn't have a production listing for the 72 Sunroof cars.

Thanks, I was thinking of buying the car as a roller (missing motor, trans and several other parts) but I have a feeling the the car would cost way to much to redo. It is a 318, non-desireable color and needs pretty much everything. And spending money on another project would only delay fixing the ones I have now.

Hey Dave,
Thanks for the offer. I have your mailing address noted, but not your phone number for some reason. If you can email a picture of what you have I can point out what I need if you have it.

I have 1972 RR sunroof numbers.
34 made for RM23 cars.
Do not know RL RH RP numbers .... combined I would doubt they were greater than 20 or so for 1972 ... just a guess.
