'71 airgrabber air cleaner

Post by Capsule » Thu Mar 15, 2007 5:56 am

Hi guys,

How did the air cleaner look on the '71 4-bbl airgrabber Roadrunners? -was it a round air cleaner or an oval one like the 6-bbl cars ?

I have seen both round and oval 4-bbl cleaners on eBay.

Round, like-a-base-a-ball!

And speaking of air filters, did the dual quads on the hemis use the same air filter as the 6 pak??

Thanx guys,

thats what I thought too.
I need a set like the one on your picture Bruce. Anyone got experience with the repop fibreglass base from Year One?
Might get a real one on eBay though, not sure yet.

I have a dumb question about those air cleaners. I like the look of the 6pak aircleaner (top), has anyone tried to use the 4 barrel bottom with the 6 pack top? I am putting in an air grabber hood. Or possibly a 69 air cleaner.

You could make that work, you'd just have to rig something up for the wingnut studs which are mounted on the front and rear carbs on a 6-bbl setup.

I have a fiberglass base...not sure where it came from.....It did not
have the drip tube or the breather tube....I cut some holes and fiberglassed some short pieces of tubing into place......scott

I'd think you'd have a very difficult time getting the 6pack air filter to seal down on a 4bbl baseplate.

football or baseball?????

football or baseball?????

I think the platform is there for the oval air cleaner on all
ramcharger or airgrabber bases....I'd say it will work... would you
think the airbox is different for 71 six pak than 4bbl? (under hood part)

By the way I usually try to think of baseball....if that doesnt work
I resort to drastic measures and think of Delta Burke

these are all on sale now on ebag

I am using a four barrel baseplate with the sixpack lid.everything fits fine.Just had to fabricate an adapter bar to go from one stud to two.

p.s.don't mind the dirt it has not been cleaned in over a year.

I've been offered a '69 4bbl air grabber base but I'm not sure if its from a 383/400 or a 440.
It currently sits in a 'cuda 440, but I'm not sure if that can help me determine its origin.

Is there any way that I can find out if it fits my '71 440 air grabber without actually installing it in my car?

bigger block

Post by scottish440 » Sun Mar 25, 2007 1:00 pm

that is a good question....how much taller is a raised block than
a standard big block?

Other than this mesurement I cannot see why this would not fit.
