Re: distributor
make sure you put the reluctor on correctly facing the big block position .
weld up the slots if you want to increase your initial timing
Just buy a new MP with adjustable slots if youre not on a budget !

Re: distributor
Thanks for the info, I want to keep it all original, it is the taking apart that is a bit scary for me.
Re: distributor
Don't be surprised if that nylon bushing at the base of the distributor cracks, very common.I would replace it with a new one.

Re: distributor
When taking it apart there is a retaining ring in the hollow part of the shaft that the rotor covers. It takes two small screwdrivers to squeeze the tips together to get it out. It is a delicate operation that takes patience. And for gods sake. Don't let spring away as you remove it out the top. it'll fly who knows where. Other than that they are pretty easy. Getting the adv ance arm in and out of the plate is a little tricky but no big deal.

Re: distributor
If you take the springs off the mechanical advance it can aid in getting the clip off/out. I think there is a small washer under the clip also so be careful. Another thing is if you have any varnish on the shaft clean it off before you attempt to pull it out. It will bind up in the lower bushing. When taking it apart there is a retaining ring in the hollow part of the shaft that the rotor covers. Re: distributor
Agree with all that was said.
Mark where the plate that holds everything goes. If you've never done this before, or don't have another dist.
for reference It can be confusing. Also, DO NOT try to remove the shaft bushing unless you already have a spare. You will most likely break it! And the new bushing doesn't have a hole drilled for the roll pin, this can be tough for a beginner. My advice, leave it be.
