WHY CAN'T I BURNOUT

Post by erick1974 » Sun Aug 03, 2008 3:25 am

so me and my buddy were bored and haden't fireed up the satellrunner (satellite-roadrunner clone) in a while and haven't ever really smoked em.well one night by myself i made a few small black marks.now when i tried it i even really put my foot to the floor in won't go.i have a ratchet shifter in it and when i shift into second it is the same.i timed it and all but still the same.i didn't have the air cleaner on straight but does that matter?what could it be?i put the advance timing hose on and a new pcv valve and hose.what could it be!!!!!!!!!!!!11

also when i did brake torque it a little not alotta black i look at my right passengers side mark and it was black and my drivers was just white and barely any black.if it is a sure grip 8 1/4 does the passengers spin first and then after a certain rpm the drivers engages?

this worries me

if you had a sure grip, both would be spinning - appearantly, i do not have a sure grip, but i have left 2 black marks several times. what motor is in your car, what do you have for gears, tires, etc? everything comes into play, unless your motor has some power. so, what year is the motor, has it been rebuilt, whats the compression, etc. sometimes it is just little things that make the difference - it was always harder than crap to get my BFGs to even make a sound, let alone leave marks - they NEVER smoke, though. but, now i can be rolling down the street and stab the throttle at 20 mph and light em up. if your motor has been beat on quite a bit, it may need rebuilt - there was a kid i went to hs with with an elcamino with a 400 - couldn't even spin the tires

A white burnout mark???

If its ratchet just try burning them them in the drive gear.

If that doesnt work,i wouldnt force the car to,or be upset that it cant do a burnout.

well, that's not good, as far as your trans gears, so get that taken care of for drivin or you'll be SUCKIN gas

but, we were talkin about rear end gears - 2.76, 3.23, 3.55, 3.91, 4.10, 4.30, etc. if it was a satellite it probably had 2.76 or maybe 3.23s stock.

were your tires already hot? a 318 should still lite em up, i would think, as long as your tires aren't TOO wide.

i wouldn't be about doing this, but the old redline, blue streak, etc. bias ply tires will create a big cloud. i'm not sure on driveability compared to radials, but i'm trying to do some research, as i'd like to have some mickey thompson indy tires, but they're bias.

and mopars are king of the road, which means they make a TON of torque...chevy motors claim large hp numbers, but their torque sux, so they don't run quite as well

you could just tell everyone you're so great at laying out your suspension, getting the weight ratio right, and great traction tires that you don't burnout because all your power is goin to the ground :D just playin

Bais ply tires will spin eaiser than radials. The Satellites came with 14 in. tires, if you put 15's on a stock geared rear end that will change the final gear ratio. So if you started out with 2.73:1 and add an inch or more to the tire size your final drive ratio might be closer to 2.30:to 1. So if you just want to do burners you have a couple of choices. Get yourself some old bias ply e78 14 tires and do brake stands or spend $50 and get yourself a line lock. Search ebay for a mopar 9 1/4 posi unit with 3.55's. There cheap and will fit under your car. They are found under doba's, magnums and charger's from 75 to 79.

Burners can be expensive not only in the area of tires. My kid got caught doing one and he got 3 tickets. Display of power, wreckless driving and disturbing the peace for a whopping total of almost $600. He was driving a 89 cherokee with a straight six.

and once in awhile, you get a cop on a power trip, like the guy who gave me a "cairles driving" (yes, that's how he spelled it on the ticket) because i spun my tires in my taurus at a stop sign because it was icey (january - coming home from working at the ski hill)....said i was spinnin my tires for 2 blocks - well, i should have fought it, but i didn't - the guy ended up getting fired not too long after for writing false tickets, writing tickets out of his jursdiction, etc.

I agree with RAV440...

I saw this car is for sale again, why are you selling it so quick?

Just to make sure everybody remembers, don't do burnouts through the water in 1st gear in a 727. Always start in 2nd, and let it shift into 3rd if necessary. If you leave it in 1st, as you let the car roll forward out of the water box, the shock-load of the tires hitting the dry pavement can do some really nasty things to your overrunning clutch - which can damage the trans case on it's way out. Let's just say I've seen it done more than once - and it's a very quick way to end your day at the track.
