I have just obtained a 72 Satelite hood. I see someone has asked for help with measurements for cutting to make it an airgrabber hood. Could I sweet talk someone into helping me out?

I plan on painting my car the original B5 Blue sometime this summer, and I was hoping to paint 2 hoods at the same time.

I was going to use the stinger equipment to make it a reality. I hope they are qaulity repo.

I just finished my hood...and was VERY! pleased with there products.....

I will get you the mesurements on the hole...finally figured it out on my own...

Rounding Up Under the hood stuff
Get all you can from Stenger...By the aftermarket flapper door on e-bay(not cheap $150 or so)... vaccum canister...don't buy the ones that are listed as "air grabber" this just means they are more expensive! Canisters came on everthing from school busses to tractors....so just search for "vaccum canister" (mine came off of a mustang and matches my friends original canister to a T and it cost under $10 on e-bay)....Actuator...the cheapest way out on this is to get one from any late 60's mopar with flip out hedlights...NOTE these are not exact...one of the vaccum hose inlets faces the opposite direction...only minor for the price....Actuator Bracket Wilson product has these on e-bay and they are nice...$50-60....Vaccum Hose I used parts house vaccum line to save money....$14 dollars a spool compared to $150 or so for pretty acurate sets also on e-bay....Air Filter Lid and base I think you can get these in metal repopped..I went with year one fiberglass

Installation of the bubble is the hardest part...(to get right) you will be required to tap and set all of the mounting studs (20-25 studs) into the underside of the bubble...and then try to drill a matching set of holes into your hood...you may cuss a little.....I have a trick that helps when you get around to doing yours....you still have some parts to find.

Hopes this gives you a start...you should be able to get most everything for around $800-$900 I did..prett good considering it increases the value of your car 20-30%

Doing a step by step process with visual aids would have been great!

I would like to do a step by step.....there are none online for the 71-72 cars....But I cannot post any pictures....I have somehow exceded my limit...and cannot get a response on how to fix it.

I responded to your PM on how to fix this back a few weeks ago. Each user is limited to a certain amount of total file space they can post to the site. The site itself has limitations, and this is the only way to effectively stay under the total site limit. If you've exceeded it, you either have to go back to old posts and delete attachments or host the photos somewhere else.

Holy Crap my air grabber stuff came in from stinger yesterday. It looks awesome. Now the hard part starts (actually the fun part).

I will keep you posted with my success and or failures.

If any of you can put together a word document or something with pics as a walk-through I can convert it to a web page and get it online.

I just finished cutting my hood today.

Tomorrow starts with studs in the air grabber bubble and air door.

I have a diagram from stinger, that helped me make all the right cuts on the hood, it was much easier than I thought it would be.

I can give anyone that is interested the dimensions, or I can scan the diagram.

If I get done with the bubble this weekend I will post pictures.

I looked at the Stinger setup as well since it stated it worked on 73-74 Satellites as well. I asked if they had any pics. They responded that a 73/74 hood is the same as the 71/72. I differed and never received another response. Anyone who sees their site and thinks that the setup will work on the later bodies may need to look elsewhere.

About the Airgrabber,

how does it actually function? Does it get pressure from the Carb? And what does the canister do?
How does it sound when the flap opens and closes, are we talking snake hiss?

After much contemplation I think I figured out Stingers statement about 71-74. I think they mean the Satelite hood from 71-72 works on 73-74, but you have to have the non bulge hood. Anyone else have any ideas?

I think that the hoods have completely different dimensions and contours. I thinkk I saw a 71 with a 74 hood and it was too long adn didn't match up

The hoods would fit but the contours by the front won't match. The 73/74 has humps by the headlights that the 71/72 do not. Stinger told me they were the same hood which obviously isn't true. I was just looking for an alternative for a 73 RR hood since they are not easy to find near me in Tx. Shipping is outrageous for a hood.
