Rear-end widths: '71-72 versus '73-74

Post by rt-man » Wed Mar 08, 2006 6:01 pm

Technical Q: is there a drum-to-drum width difference between an 8 3/4 rear in a '71-72 B-body versus a '73-74? I have a '73 8 3/4 rear end that I was going to put into my '72 Satellite. If it won't fit, someone on Moparts is looking for one for a '73-74 so Imight as well let it go if it won't do me any good.

Who can dispel/verify this urban myth? Thanks.

there is no difference in the width. The difference between the two comes in the spring perch center holes and leaf spring rubber isolators that are found on 73/74 vehicles. Other than that, they are the same.
