72 RR questions
I recently bought a 72 Road Runner.I have many questions and am hoping someone can help me with them.
1, What is the correct color for the brake booster?
2,What is the correct color for the grille mesh part and the part surrounding the headlights?
3,It will have an air grabber hood. How many nipples should the valve cover breather have?
4,It is a 400 but I read somewhere that the air grabbers use a 440 carb.Is that correct?
5,It is an automatic on the floor.I have a single piece of kick down linkage. It doesn't look right to me.Does anyone have pictures that would help? Will any year big block linkage work?
6,Does anyone make repo wheel lip moldings?
7,Does the air cleaner lid have a "pie pan" to identify the engine?
Thanks in advance for your help.

1- don't know mine was manual
2 ditto
3- Should be a 3 nipple breather. One to the vapor line from the tank, one from the vent on the carb, last one should go to the AG base plate as an intake for the PCV operation.
4- No that is not correct- although they may be the same carb, it has nothing to do with the AG. The factor is th eTYPE of engine. This has to do with TWO different base plates for the AG. The 340/440 use one base plate- which is shorter in overall height. The second is the one for the 383/400 which is about 1 inch taller beacuse the "B" block carb sits about that much lower inthe car.
6- have to wait on an auto guy to answer this. There are
7 On AG cars - they don't use a pie tin to ID the engine. If you use a single 4 bbl there is a decal that goes on the open element lid. Coyote duster. There is also a seperate decals for the big oval AG Aircleaner.

Laysons makes repro wheel opening moldings, but you probably already know, it's best to purchase from them at a show, not by phone.
Here's a photo of a 71 AG 4bbl air cleaner top, I assume the 72 would be the same.

1, What is the correct color for the brake booster? Iit should be Gold Cad
2,What is the correct color for the grille mesh part and the part surrounding the headlights? It is sort of a darker Argent than earlier years, no texture
3,It will have an air grabber hood. How many nipples should the valve cover breather have? I belive only 1 going to the Air cleaner. The Tank vent and Carb vent go to the charcoal canister on a 72
4,It is a 400 but I read somewhere that the air grabbers use a 440 carb.Is that correct? 400's use a thermoquad, 440's use a Holley
5,It is an automatic on the floor.I have a single piece of kick down linkage. It doesn't look right to me.Does anyone have pictures that would help? Will any year big block linkage work? It is a 1 piece linkage. You have to make sure it is from a 440 or it might not fit right
6,Does anyone make repo wheel lip moldings? Laysons....NOS ones are out there but fairly expensive
7,Does the air cleaner lid have a "pie pan" to identify the engine? Previously answered
Thanks in advance for your help.

I believe some automatics had a single piece kickdown linkage, while others had a three piece one. I think it says that in my Haynes book, but it covers all RWD cars from 71-86(?). They should interchange between cars if it's for a big block, I believe, because if you order a repro, I think all they want to know the block size and wheteher it's a 727 or 904.
I know NOS, and repro, wheel well moldings are really expensive, but the Paddock has repro's for about $300.

This vapor line runs with the fuel line where it enters the engine compartment on the passengerside frame rail.bruce wrote:BlackGTS wrote:Road Chicken,
On the breather question you said one for the vapor line from the tank. What tank are you referring to?
The fuel tank. There's a vapor line that runs from the fuel tank to one of these nipples.

Does anyone have a picture of the charcoal canister setup on a 72 RR?
I have a box of parts that came with the car. There is a circular bracket with a 5" radius that could be for the canister.
Who sells these canisters?
I appreciate all the replies. This is my first RR and I am just starting to tear into it.I will probably have many more questions as I get into it.

Ok, slapstik auto...should have a 3 piece kickdown (at least 71 big block cars did). Here's a pic of the lower part of the linkage for a 383 slapstik car...the rest is still hanging from my engine
