New to the nest
Hi everyone I am new to the Nest but not new to mopars. At the time of my divorce about 15 years ago I had many mopars in my collection ( 71 440 6 pac 4sp rr, 72 400 4sp rr, 72 triple black 400 4sp rallye charger, 71 challenger R/T 383 4sp, 71 340 auto demon, 76 feather duster drag car, 79 magnum gt plus many more and tons of nos and used parts parts) but I had to get rid of everything. It was a sad time in my life to say the least. I am sorry to say that I lost interest for all these years. Now I am on the hunt for a 71 bird and I am wondering if some of the hard to find options are being reproduced, like the rear window louvers, elastomeric front brow, air grabber parts, ect. If they are can you guys lead me in the right direction? Thanks in advance. sorry for the double post I forgot to enter the subject title.

Hey
Sounds like a nice collection! I know the rear window louvers are reproduced. You can get them on ebay usually if you search under "road runner." I think they are around $300-500. They are also available from Dayclona, but they are a lot more expensive($3000, I think)
. The front rubber bumper-I don't know if it's a repro (probably is), but they are on ebay, too for about $1500 "Buy it Now" price. I haven't seen a lot of repro air grabber parts, but the complete hoods and parts to make a standard one into an air grabber are on ebay. The hoods are very high priced-I've seen some go for $2-3000, but if you want the real deal, I guess it's the way to go. Otherwise, they sell the bubble, door, opening, gaskets, actuators, etc. separately (usually pretty high reserve). The I've looked for parts are Paddock, Year One, Legendary, EBay, and I'm thinking some others, but there probably are more. I do know that parts for these cars are terrible to find. I believe they are usually not repro's, and so are usually high in price. Interior parts aren't very hard to find, it's the patch panels, trim, other little things that are hard to come by. Radios used to be pretty hard to find. I got mine for like $40, FMs go for a little more. The radios with the cassette deck usually minimum are $200 all the way up to about $500, I think. I'm a pretty big fan of ebay for NOS stuff, because sometimes, but definitely not always, the people that are selling it don't know how very valuable it is to a good resto.
They are reproducing the factory-type Firestones and Goodyears-I know from Paddock and probably Coker Tire. Rallye wheels are repro'd-I'm thinkin around $1000 for a complete set with the trim rings, caps, etc. I think a complete interior is around $2000, but I'm not completely sure on that one.
That's what I can remember right now.

welcome to the 'nest
the front elastomeric bumper eyebrow is being reproduced by Gene Gregory....they're on ebay ocassionally (and a bit pricey!) Dayclona is reproing the louvers buy I've heard they have some issues. I understand First Place Auto may also be reproing them soon. I would expect very good quality from them.
Lets hear more about those cars you had....especially the 440+6 4spd...do you have any of the documentation from that car still?

AKA Butterscotch71....the road runner nest is out to win you over this year!
I am always glad to talk about that one. It was a sassy grass one with a sunroof and black vinyl top. I didnt like the top and I wanted the strobe stripe, but I did not want a canopy top so I got rid of the vinyl and spent a ton of time working on the roof to straighten it out ( they used a lot of filler and didnt do a good job and the vinyl covered alot). It had chrome bumpers, duals with tips and an air grabber. I bought a set of louvers for $50 (this was back in 81). I was always on the lookout for cars and parts and one day I came accross a yellow 71 parts car. At that time I have seen the elastomeric bumpers that were color keyed but I never saw one like this, it had a chrome bumper with the brow but the brow was unpainted. I think it was a replacement piece that was never finished because I have never seen one like that again. I got that car for 350. I dismantled the car and used that brow on my RR. I never got around to painting the bumper because I was always buying mopars and taking them apart and cataloging the parts. I dont have to mention that I was obsessed with mopars especially the road runners. The interior was nice but not nice enough for a fanatic like me. So I hunted the bone yards and got a part at a time. It was hard to find a perfect drivers seat so I decided to get an extra passenger set and take the covers off and put them on the drivers seat. It had a 4 sp console but that was not good enough for me so I bought an am/fm and cassette recorder and mike for it that one cost quite a bit considering it didnt work well at all. That cost me 300 in 89 alot of money at that time but that did not matter to me at all. It had p/w and p/l that was pretty rare for a runner. Another option that it had was the drivers aid package that included tha low fuel, door ajar and seat belt indicater along with interior light package. It had the factory tach. In about 1990 I bought a nos set of exaust tips for the unheard of price of 350. Then I bought a nos bubble for the air grabber even though the original one was perfect I could not pass it up, lets not forget I was obbsessed.I put an electronic ignition in it. It had the super track pac rear. Around 1992 the bird was ready to get painted but my divorce stoped that in its tracks. I had to sell everything and split it with the ex to please the courts. I was very spiteful at the time and sold everything for a fraction of what it was worth just so I didnt have to give my money ex too much. I should have stashed the bird and some of the parts but I had no place to keep it I also lost my house. I sold the road runner for 2000 to a jerk that promised to sell me a purple 71 440 6pac super bee, he backed out of the promise a few months later and I lost interest in mopars for quite a few years, but Im back. To answer your question of the documentation that would be a big NO. The F#$ken ex tossed most of my paper work and pictures. One thing she gave me was a set of muscle car trading cards that she took the 71 road runner out of. I still have the cards but I dont have the runner to complete the set. Well thats the story of my RR. Thanks for listening guys.
