V7X Longitudinal Tape Stripe

Have seen it on '71 GTX. I think it would look good on my '72 Sat. During the repaint I was gonna remove the ugly chrome body strip and have the V7X treatment done. A reply to my thread on Moparts says it's painted on. Does anyone have a copy of the factory body manual describing the process?
Thanks.

I make the original OE kit for the stripe you are asking about....and it is vinyl.

I believe it is vinyl, because I thik I've seen them for sale before- they're the strobe stripes from hood to fenderwell, correct?

The V7_ stripe is the pinstripe standard on all 71 GTXs that was PAINTED on and ran the length of the car just above the body lower character line. You could do it with standard pinstriping tape, but it would not be factory correct. I believe I do have the factory document that shows the spacing.....I'll see if I can find it.

Oh, that's what you mean! The pinstripe. I was thinking of the strobe hod to fender decals-those were for teh 72 GTX, right?

Here is part of the V7_ stripe factory engineering illustration from 10/13/1969. Note at top calls for the stripe to be lacquer.
The hood to fender stripe for 71 was only available on the GTX, coded as V9_ . It was available in a different version (sometimes referred to as tank tracks) for 72 on the road runner.

Oops...sorry about my first reply...I i was thinking "transverse stripe"....
About the longitudinal stripe for GTX...they also came on the Sebring Plus in 71...I have a Factory purple sebring plus and I know for a fact it was painted on....it has since had a repaint on the purple and somehow a RR stripe has made it onto the car???
The diagram above is correct....I was told once by a fella that the painted pin stripes were put on using some type of teplate at the factory....using a formed edge that the stripe wheel rolls against.....similar to the pin stripe roller and magnetic trac kit you can order today......
take care......I do make the transverse stripe for airgrabber cars....scottish440

The full length body stripe V7_ was standard and ONLY available on the GTX for 71 (not the Satellite or SSP) according to all factory paperwork that I have seen (and cars I have documented). There was a different pinstripe standard on the SSP that ran across the rear quarter panel tops and up and over the rear window. Also part of the SSP striping were pinstripes that followed the wheel openings.
The transverse stripe (if you are referring to the V9_ hood to fender stripe) was not available with the air grabber hood, only the standard sport hood, and only on the GTX (again according to factory paperwork I've seen)

my car had a side stripe with two lines...that was where the belt moulding was....here is my tag.
I was wondering about the "transverse" stripe...I have sold 10 sets to 71-72 owners....and most of them have airgrabber set-ups from the factory...with stripes...I'm sure the stripes could have been put on at a later date.....
Also I am interested in any documentation that you might have on stripe packages....I have found a 71 rr with a strobe between the call outs on the hood...I have a picture...it was reflective and the it had the 71 style over the roof strobe....prett cool...I was thinking about offering the stripe....but wanted to find out mor info....

The V6_ on your tag is the stripe I mentioned as standard for the SSP. It was a double pinstripe.
There were two different hood to fender stripes. The 71 GTX version had two wide stripes with a narrow one in the middle. The 72 RR version looked more like a strobe stripe. I know of no factory strobe stripes applied between the hood callouts....sounds almost like a duster twister stripe.

My stripes were different on the side...they continued across the door.
..my striped did go around the back window....I didn't remember this
because the whole top of the car was flat blacked out
...pretty wierd...we found the rear stripes upon sanding.
I wish I had pre pictures of my car....sorry
the original owner special orded 2 cars in 1970 a 71 SSP purple
with white interior and a 71 cuda purple with white interior (cuda for his wife)
(both 383 cars)
he bought the SSP for insurance reasons....but really wanted a GTX...the price of
the SSP was $50 dollars more than a showroom GTX whan it finally arrived. lol
thanks for the pictures....and the info...you really know your stuff!!!
