Road Runner Nest

This may seem like a stupid question but how do I get the headrests out of my 72 RR? It is a bench seat car and I for the life of me I can't see what to do after I have them fully extended.

I thought you push the bars in together? Am I wrong?
Never took mine out ....I have a 1972 Road Runner w/ bench seat too.

Someone on Moparts said to remove the screws at the top of the seat and there were clips in there. I am going to try your idea first. I want to refinish them and I need them out to do it.
