GY4 interiors

Post by Mike 71X » Sun Mar 11, 2018 12:30 pm

Hello all,

I'm working on a 71 GTX restoration. Interior is GY4 but basically everything in there has been painted so we are not sure on what the actual colors should be. Anyone have a 71 with original GY4 interior they could provide some pictures for us to reference? Thank you in advance.

GY4 would be the door frame paint color, not the interior code. The interior code is 4 digits. I'm guessing P6Y3?

Yes, you are correct. My bad. I wasn't very clear. The door panels, the metal parts of the dash and the dash pad have been painted. Trying to identify the right color for the dash and pad. Also we got a replacement arm rest that did not match the existing arm rests or door panels. On closer inspection most of the panels in the car (doors, kick panels, arm rests) have all been painted. The panels are still in good shape so want to re-use but make sure we get the correct color. On pictures I've found that were supposed to be GY4 the dash is a lot darker than the seats and door panels.

Out of the 11 xxY3 cars I have on file, only 2 had good interior pics. One pic is from a 1971 Barracuda Gran Coupe with P6Y3 interior, and the other pic is a 1972 Charger SE with P6Y3 interior. Don't know if these help or not......

To be clear, if GY4 shows on your fender tag on the second line from the bottom, third code from the left, it is ONLY the door frame paint color. It is not the color of the dash or any other painted parts. The door frame paint is the area painted black in the photo attached.

What is your interior code (second line from bottom, second code from the left)?

for a --Y3 interior, the dash (frame and pad) will be darker than the other plastic and vinyl interior.

1st photo - original car, faded plastic
2nd photo - interior restored correctly

Thanks, these pictures help a lot. My interior is P6Y3. My dash frame is very similar to the pic so that appears to be the only piece that isn't faded or molested. If a repaint of the dash frame is needed how do you find the paint code?

I don't believe I have paint codes for the interior dash frames. I'd suggest having a color match done on an area of the paint that hasn't been too exposed to sunlight.

Call Instrument Specialities, they are the only ones with the correct suede paint for the dash frame. How close to correct are you wanting to go?

Turns out the shop has already ordered something up. We'll see how that turns out otherwise we have your referral. Thanks to everyone for the information.

That is about as pretty as looking an interior as you can get.

I wasn't too sure about it when I first got my car but it's growing on me. Looks a lot better in that picture with the fresh colors.

Exterior is Y8 with black vinyl top and black stripes. It's in process so no pictures yet with the correct color. It was gold when I bought it but about 2 shades lighter than correct. I liked it that way as well but I think I'll prefer the Y8.
