CLIPS for shoulder belts

Post by GTX158 » Mon Aug 03, 2015 7:57 pm

My 71 is now Ready for Vinyl top and headliner except installer told me I need clips that go in before he installs headliner so I can put shoulder belts in. Car had NO headliner or shoulder belt set up when I bought it , just had headliner bows. DON'T even know what I'm looking for, anyone have any pics or better yet the clips I need???

Are you talking about the clip that holds the shoulder belt up when not in use? I didn't reinstall mine, or the belt, and it looks a lot cleaner. Or are you talking about clips for the headliner itself?

There are some metal clips that install above the doors - I know what he is talking about. Rubberish plastic covers go over the outer piece to hold up the shoulder belt when not in use. I swear I had some pictures - but can't find them now. Stuff is boxed up and in storage right now also. Hopefully someone else will chime in. Scott.

Ok, now I know what he is talking about. I left mine out, and didn't install the belt. It sure looks better, and the belt won't keep falling down all the time.

Ok maybe I should say brackets, there are 2 brackets each side that screw into window/roof frame then headliner goes on then the metal clips screw on with plastic over them to hold belts. Brackets are what I'm talking about.

I thought they just went into premade holes in the roof rail with sheetmetal screws

Brian, Larry is correct, ’71-72 B-bodies don’t use an extra mounting bracket under the headliner for the shoulder belt clips as the E-body does. Sounds like the installer may be confused. Clips screw directly through the headliner material into the roof/window structure.

Oh Boy!! That's good that I don't need them but I don't have 2 horizontal holes together were the retainers look like they would go. So what holes are used for belt retainers and which hole is used for coat hook for matter. Headliner installer sent me an email of these brackets that looked like they would fit exactly I just have a hard time posting pics here(they must be from e body. Any info and pics would help kinda more confused now, like I said when I bought the car all it had was the 6 headliner bows

Doug, that's an awesome photo. BUT mine not exactly the same. The coat hook and belt location are there retainers locations are NOT, the rear bulge is the there just would need to drill holes no problem but the front bulge is replaced and is concave. My car is a Aug. 70 build they must have change things. More confused!!!

I found my pics!!!

Here we go - the bottom center piece is the clip that goes in BEFORE the headliner. Then the bottom right piece screws through the headliner into the first clip. The top couple of pieces comprise the garment hook that goes on the drivers side.

Here are the shoulder belt clips in their proper place - note the awesome custom headliner that was in my ride.

And here is a couple close up pics of the naked area above the passenger door.

Now you have an idea of what you are looking for - good luck with the search!

My 71's have this bracket that goes on before the headliner. Then the bracket shown above that the plastic cover goes on screws to this after the liner.

THANKS MARK!!!There we go that's what I've been talking about. 71 must be different then 72. Notice the difference in the roof/window frame in pictures above.
