Re: More than 4 speeds
None of the stock parts can be used with a Tremec transmission, and you have to cut the floor and in some cases the trans mount crossmember structure also. Everything is completely different, and I hope you own a machine shop, and welding equipment. Now I think getting a 4 speed OD from Passon is not much of a problem, it's the 5 speed that is in short supply.

Re: More than 4 speeds
from all the swaps I read out there, if your willing to cut up your floor, the viper T56 transmission is the only way to go. You can get them now fairly cheap, 6 speeds so running 4:10's is no problem, great ratios, and able to handle high hp reliably. I would be going this route if i didn't put so much time and effort into getting my car done quickly and look stock. I still may go with this setup as the passon $ is a hard pill to swallow, especially now my dollar is only 75 cents to your us dollar.

Re: More than 4 speeds
Do a real comparison, it's not as high of a price as you might think. With the tremec you need a special bell housing, and clutch, and hyd throw out bearing, and shifter, and drive shaft, and the list keeps going on. I think I read that the 6 speeds req require that the torsion bar cross member had to be cut, and reworked. Now, what will all of that cost to have compared to $2000 for Passon 4 speed?

Re: More than 4 speeds
Your correct, you do have to cut thr cross member, seen some pretty genius ways of guys doing this on protouring.com, I have not compared other parts and additional costs, ive read guys have way less headaches with the viper over the tremec. After all the bs I have seen with my buddy who bought a tremec, id never buy one. Hes sunk over double of what he paid into that tremec and it still makes a hellova noise and tremec just passes it off like its not their fault.71bird wrote:Do a real comparison, it's not as high of a price as you might think. Re: More than 4 speeds
Passon makes 2 OD trannys. The 833 4-spd OD conversion and the 855 5-spd.
The Tremec TKO 5-spd is a bit of work. I've done a few of them. Takes their bell housing, mount and drive shaft. Uses a Chevy clutch disc. May need some tunnel work. The Passion units are a true bolt in using all the original Mopar stuff.

Also the Tremec 5-spds shift like crap. The T-56 6-spd shifts better.

Re: More than 4 speeds
How are the passon ratios for the 4speed? Id be ok with this if the first 3 gears are the same with the 4th being a highway gear. I heard of guys using the later 4sp od trannys from 78?and up, although they say the gear ratios are all wrong for a track...

Re: More than 4 speeds
Third is 1 to 1 just like 4th in the original trans. Go to his web site, and it gives the ratios for 1st, and 2nd.

Re: More than 4 speeds
It would seem that a Passon 4 speed od would be a good choice because of direct bolt in, also notarrived to the 4.11s I'll just go to passon chart and see what jives thx ,dave

Re: More than 4 speeds
after the poor service my buddy has been experiencing with tremec, (brand new from tremec hasn't worked since day one, spent almost another $3000 just to get it to run proper, still doesn't run quite right, tremec stands by saying nothing is wrong with it and won't warranty it) I'd never buy one.Oldyells wrote:Thx to both dangina and 71 bird , I guess supply isn't meeting demand , but what about tremec ,does anyone know of difficulty getting either 5 or 6 speed? Thx dave

Re: More than 4 speeds
It seems the more I hear about tremec the less I like. Now again I'm not married to the 4.11s but would kinda like the best of both worlds with having 5 gears .It also seems passon is very mopar friendly ,so if availability were good with the passon five speed I certainly would go with that.
