Manual transmission conversion

Post by 71Satellite98661 » Sun Jan 18, 2015 9:17 pm

Can anyone weigh in on changing over to a 5 or 6 speed manual transmission? I am not having any luck with the search. I'd love to see a step by step photo essay of the conversion and feedback of the process.

Unless you own a machine, and welding shop, I wouldn't do it. You have to cut up the sheet metal, and make parts. Just go over and read the posts on moparts. I would suggest a Passon 4 or 5 speed, where all of the stock stuff is used, and everything fits just like factory. I have one of his 4 sped, and really like it.

passon 5 speed - complete OEM bolt in
everyone else - custom bellhousing, chopping up tunnels, fabricating transmission mounts, shortening driveshafts ect ect. But if you can handle this stuff yourself, you'll save probably close to 2 grand, as you can find various used transmissions for 1-2 grand. the passon starts at close to 5 grand and if you apply now, you might get it in a year, might. I have been on the list for over 8 months now, still no word.

You never mentioned what you have now a 4 speed or auto. You can get a auto overdrive if that is to your liking.

I have a Passon 4 speed OD, and really like. I don't really see the need for 5 or 6 gears, when comparing dollar for dollar, and effort to install, It's a no brainer.I went on an interstate romp last summer, and instead of running 55 like all of the other muscle cars, I was leading the highway cruisers at 85/90 at I think less than 3000. 2500, 73 mph.
