72 Roadrunner Grille Paint ????

We are preparing to paint the grille on our 72 RR soon and I have a couple of questions about the paint:

1. What color is best for the plastic pieces -- headlight bezels and center section? From my research on this site it appears that SEM 39023 (medium driftwood metallic) bumper coater in a spray bomb was the answer back in 2009. Is this still the paint of choice or is there a better option now?

2. Is the honeycomb painted the same color as the plastic or is it different? A PO of our car had all the plastic painted black and the honeycomb painted some god awful green so I have no reference to work from.

Thanks for the help.

As far as I’m concerned, the information I posted back in ’09 stands, SEM 39023 is still the closest to the NOS pieces I used. Whatever you do, don’t fall for the Argent Silver solution, it’s not correct. I’m running a NOS honeycomb as well, finish on it is a dark grey IIRC. I’ll post a current close-up picture later today when the camera battery charges.

Thanks for the response and the pictures. I now have some SEM paint ordered for the plastic pieces. Looking at your car, in your opinion, is the honeycomb lighter, darker, or basically the same as the plastic? It's kinda hard to tell in the pictures but the closeup looks about the same to me.

Would have to agree, if it’s not the same, it’s very close to it.
