1971 Tachometer
My Tachometer is no longer working. Should I replace the tach with a new one or should I have mine rebuilt?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: 1971 Tachometer
Here's my take, I don't trust any of the Kung Fu parts that are available now, so I would get it fixed. Talk to Real Time engineering, they have a new design board that you can install, or maybe they will do it for you.

Re: 1971 Tachometer
I bought a "reproduction" and promptly returned it. First of all, the range was wrong at 0-8000. 2nd the pointer color was wrong as was the lettering font. Terrible. It drives me crazy when I see these installed with old weathered instruments. My suggestion? Instrument Specialties in Rhode Island. Can't beat the results.

I know what you mean, that's what I was talking about on the Kung Fu stuff. Actually though an 8000 rpm tack was an option.

Re: 1971 Tachometer
There was only one tachometer order code for 71 B bodies, and only one service part number. IF an 8k tach was available I would expect it to be part of the track pack option, and my car with original super track pack has a 7k tach. I believe you may be thinking about E bodies.
AKA Butterscotch71....the road runner nest is out to win you over this year!
Re: 1971 Tachometer
An 8k tachometer was not an option on '71 B-bodies. I can not speak for seeing one in a magazine. I have run across MANY '71's with the tack option--many with the super-trak-pak option, ALL were 7k units. Even owned an early build date one (2nd week production) 7k unit.
