Does any one have any details on adding a fasten seat belt lamp to the lower dash? I'd like to add it to a car that didn't have one originally. I assume there is a time delay relay involved? What about exact location? Anyone have any FSM details or photos of their own lamps?

I don't know why you would want to ugly up the dash with that, but when they did have one it went up around where the map light went below the dash pad. You can find them on ebay sometimes. But you'll have to have the harness, there were wires under the seats and so forth.A big mess for nothing.

Looking for technical info not personal preferences. Thanks anyway.

I think I have an original dash out in the shop with a fasten seat belt bezel that is in about the same area as the reverse light would be with a 4 speed car. If I recall, it even looks like the reverse light, only it says fasten seat belt. The placement is down by the ash tray. I'm not sure if that's factory correct or not, but the dash appears to be original.

If you need more info or pics, I may be able to help tomorrow.

I looked a 72 4 speed road runner that the owner swears was all original and it had both the reverse and seatbelt lights.

I have seen those in a bodies and a few trucks.

I was told the Fasten Set Belt light was a March 1972 and later thing.

For 1971 I have a repro of the owners manual 81-570-1456, and electronic version of the FSM. In the owners manual on page 68, in the section listing light bulbs, there is mention of "Check Doors & Seat Belt Ind", a #1892 bulb. However, it is not mentioned elsewhere in any functional description. Nor is it shown on any Instrument Panel layout drawings.

For 1972 I have an electronic FSM. In the electrical diagrams on page 8-159, a "Fasten Seat Belt Lamp" is shown. It appears to be wired in parallel to the seat belt buzzer as shown on page 8-160. There is no mention I could find of it's actual location. I also do not see any wiring of sensors in seats or belt buckles, so it seems that it's just a pre-start reminder type thing. Can't say with certainty, as I have found the occasional mistake or omission in these manuals.

That said, this does not appear to have been available in 1971. Why add one?

The official introduction of the seat belt warning system was January 1, 1972, across all of the Chrysler product lines. ’72 Parts catalog indicates production changes began in early December 1971 for the B-bodies. The primary location of the warning light was in the map light insert above the cluster, this picture from a TSB regarding the introduction of this system indicates that only when the car was ordered with a Tough steering wheel was a second warning light installed into the lower dash to the right of the ash tray. I would assume the smaller diameter of that wheel blocked the warning indicator light above the cluster.

BTW, no timed relay involved, switches in the seat belt retractors and front seat cushions, basically, with the parking brake released, weight on the seats and seat belts retracted = a warning light and buzzer.

Factory installed seat belt warning system on a ’71? didn’t happen.

71s did have an option with three lights above the dash including a seat belt light. I believe it was part of the driver's aid group

To clarify; the stand alone, lower dash mounted, dedicated “seat belt” light, referenced by the OP in this thread, was first factory installed as part of the complete seat belt warning buzzer/light system, only on the b-bodies ordered with a Tough steering wheel, and only after early December 1971, part of a mid-model year ’72 production change across all Chrysler product lines. Again, this lower dash mounted “seat belt” light housing would not have been installed by the factory on any b-body, prior to mid-model year ‘72. The ’71 option mentioned, was a map light insert located two lamp indicator behind a single lens. A low fuel light, connected to the optional low fuel relay and a combined “door locks/seat belts” reminder light connected to the ign key illumination timer relay, activated for about 60-90 seconds after driver’s door being opened then closed only. ’71 FSM pg. 8-178.
