2 Tone 72 RR and the 72 Option and Accessory Report

Hello all! First post to the board but I've been researching and learning here for a while. Lots of excellent information!

We have a V02 coded 2 tone green 72 roadrunner that is in the body shop right now. We are going to have the car repainted in its original colors (amber sherwood and sherwood green) because of what we have learned from Eric and this board and the fact that my son wants a car that's "different".

Anyway, we are catching a lot of good natured grief from the guys at the body shop and others in our small town about "Why in the world would you want to paint it those colors again??????" From an old two tone paint thread I found here 1972RM23 stated "When I read the 1972 Option and Accessory Report there are 0.2% two tone optioned 1972 Roadrunners." If I do the math right that means 0.2% X 7628 = 15-16 cars that were two tone paint.

Is there anywhere I can get this "1972 Option and Accessory Report" for myself? I would love to have this documentation to display along with the car at shows and to show all the doubters with regards to our color choices. I have searched the internet everywhere and can't come up with this literature.

Any help or info would be much appreciated.

Rare car.
I've never seen a 1972 V02 car before only a 1971 GTX with the V02 option.
V02 is a painted black top with trim like a full vinyl top.
Those numbers are approximation based upon the total production.
Like I've said ... I've never seen a fender tag for a 1972 V02 car before.
Please post a picture of the fender tag or PM it to me please!

Welcome to the Nest Rick! Photo posting is a little sketchy here. Better to use a hosting site like photobucket and link to it here.

I have a couple 71 road runners coded V02, one orange and black and the other orange and white. I know of one 71 GTX that's GF7/GF3 but do not have the fender tag info for it. BUT yours is the only 72 runner I've come across so far with a VO2 code. Just too rare not to restore it per the tag!

Sounds pretty cool can't wait to see a picture... tell the body shop not to worry about your choice, just cash the check and do it

I'd look for another body shop, usually if they don't like it they won't do as good of a job.

This is the reproduction of the widow sticker on the 1971 GTX w/ V02 option.
The fender tag was covered of AC tubing so no picture of the tag.

That's the one, thanks for posting Steve

Sorry about not posting pictures. I tried but couldn't get it to work. Tried to pm yesterday before I posted and couldn't figure that out either. If I can get the photobucket thing to work I will post some photos.

As for the body shop, I'm confident they will do a good job. They are guys I have known for years and whatever I want they will do, they just want to "harass" me a little about it. Would love to have documentation about the rarity to "stick it right back" to them. LOL

Do either of you have any pictures of the 71 GTX with the GF7/GF3 paint? In its original colors? It appears in the window sticker photo the car is now red or orange. Would love to see them if you do.

1972RM23, I would gladly send you a fendertag picture if you pm me with your email address. At the compose message page I saw no way of actually composing a message. Either I'm not doing something right or my ability to pm is restricted.

The 71 GTX was painted a color between GK6 and FK5 with a black top when I saw it. I THINK it would be the mirror of your car.
PMs aren't available to someone who first signs up. I believe it takes 5 posts before that feature becomes available.

Pictures of the 1971 GTX with V02
The V02 top was now painted as a canopy instead of the full top paint.

Thanks for posting the picture Larry!

Two tone, I guess I can not PM your either until you have user pivileges

Thanks for the pictures of the GTX. Is it possible that car was a painted canopy to begin with? Or is that different codes? Is there anyway to tell which way they came originally like ordering info, etc? Broadcast sheet/s were long gone in our car.

In my opinion the canopy paint cut line flows with the car lines better. I did some very primitive "photoshop" (not much of a graphic artist) on my car and it looks really good to me. Might be in the market for some canopy trim but I doubt my son would allow it. LOL

I'll have to look through my factory engineering documents to see if there is any indication of the V02 painting requirements (and whether it could be had in the canopy configuration). I suspect it was only available one way since there would be only one order code.

Thought it was about time for an update on the Roadrunner. Still waiting for body and paint to get finished but this is what the car looks like now:

Was really afraid we wouldn't like the paint but the colors are growing on me. Definitely unique.

The 440 is essentially finished minus a few gaskets. Here are some pics of it:

Not too shabby for our first Mopar engine build. My son and I learned a lot, not the least of which is how much more expensive it is to build a Mopar versus a GM. Hoping now that it runs as good as it looks. LOL

Front suspension has been completely rebuilt using PST components, brakes and all the lines have been redone, and a new gas tank installed. We received lots of help from a local body shop here and I can't thank them enough.

Looking forward now to the reassembly process. I took lots of pictures during disassembly but I'm sure I will be searching the nest and asking a lot of questions about fasteners, clips, and the like as we put the car back together. Many of ours were either gone or rusted beyond recognition so I'm sure I will need some help. Thanks in advance.
