Installing stereo system in my Satellite. Rear speaker holes measure 5x7 and 6x9. Did Chrysler have a surplus of 5x7 speakers?? Looks like I will be enlarging the 5x7 hole to accommodate another 6x9 speaker.

Put them in from the trunk side, then its just drilling holes.

What he said!
Much easier to deal with than hacking the shelf.
And easier to un-do if you change your mind.

Good thought on underside install. My speaker covers are snap on variety, so underside install would prevent the use of these. I solved the problem, and bought a set of speaker risers. Looks like they will work without any cutting. Will only have to drill new holes.

Why ugly up the rear deck with covers? Get a package tray cover with the speaker slots already cut in them, it will look factory, and look good.

Hmmm. Still in the planning stage. I do like good audio reproduction in any install I do. The underside, 6x9 location will give me a fairly complete interface to the circumference of the speaker. The 5x7, not so much. I do mess with audio some, and this is an important factor. I do agree that the risers are ugly. I've contemplated using the risers to correct the hole size on each of the speaker locations, by enlarging the existing cutouts, (neither side fits the speakers I have) and fastening the risers to the underside. The speakers would drop into the risers. The existing panel is a piece of black hardboard with no cutouts. I could easily drill it for audio. Thanks for the good ideas. This is a great forum, I'm a fairly new member. My car is about 95% complete. Hope to post some pictures soon. Been a 3 year effort.
