What color is your Glove Box liner--mostly to 71's

O.K. this will be my first question ever posted to the members here. Eric and I have been communicating with each other on this subject. Now we both seem to think the 72-74's all came with the "Clear" liner. I am more curious as to what all the 71's have for glove box liners---Clear or Black.

Please specify Year and Make and Color of your glove box liner. It will also help if your car is an original car interior.
For starters, I know of 2 1971 RR's both Black glove box liners. 2 1971 GTX's both Black liners. 1 1971 Satellite Sebring clear liner. These cars are all original interior cars.

Thanks for the help with this guys! I know--I am extremely anal on this stuff.

Jeff

Eric, you beat me to the punch-build date and plant to help track down the mid year change.

My fleet:

1971 SSP St. Louis built 8/26/70 Black glove box liner.
1971 SSP St. Louis built 10/07/70 Black glove box liner.
1971 SSP Los Angeles built 3/01/71 Clear glove box liner.

I do not have full history on any of these cars, but chances of the glove box being changed out seem pretty slim.

Just thinking maybe clear glove box was put in cars with interior light group, so light would shine thru?

Here are a few I checked out locally.
71 RR 9-70 St. Louis--Black
71 RR 10-70 L.A.--Black
71 GTX 9-70 St. Louis--Black
71 GTX 2-71 St. Louis--Black
71 RR 1-71 St. Louis--Black
71 RR 8-70 L.A.--Black
71 Satellite 8-70 St. Louis--CLEAR. This is the car that started all this. Everything on the interior was original. Could it have been changed? Possibly. Just looked too original to me. Trying to find another early build car with a Clear liner.

I will keep searching!

I have two dashes out of two runners (71) and both are black. I also have another AC dash out of a Satellite(72 i think) it has the opaque white in it. I noticed on the back of the box liner there is a Chrysler part # on it. I didn't get to compare them though.

All right Eric, here's some more proof!

These are ALL original UNRESTORED cars!

71 RR----St. Louis 923 Black box
71 GTX---St. Louis B05 Black box
71 RR----St. Louis B23 Black box
71 RR----St. Louis B25 Black box
71 RR----St. Louis B29 Clear box
71 SAT---St. Louis C18 Clear box
71 SAT---St. Louis 301 Black box
71 SAT---St. Louis 415 Clear box
71 RR----St. Louis 505 Clear box
71 RR----St. Louis 511 Clear box

71 GTX----Windsor 926 Black box
71 RR-----Windsor A02 Black box

71 RR------L.A. 217 Clear box

My theory is that there were TWO suppliers for the glove box liners in the 71 model year. I believe the black ones were predominant in the first half of the year, HOWEVER the clear ones were definitely in use early on in the production run. As the year unfolded, at some point, the switch was made to the Clear liners only. Where that switch occurred is difficult to pinpoint, as it differed plant to plant.

The original theory was, there were NO Clear liners used in 1971 or at least not until late in the production run. I think I have shown proof to the contrary. However,I will continue to research and report my results.
