Shifter swap

Post by morty318 » Mon Aug 05, 2013 11:08 pm

Need help guys, want to switch my shifter from the round stick (auto trans) to the t-shifter, I know I have to change the rubber shift plate, but if I get a shift assembly for the t-shifter (rectangle shaft), will it fit the linkage the same ?, from pictures it sure looks interchangable. Anyone ever try this? seems like it would pop right in. thanx kk.

If that is a round ball with a button in the top- that is for a 70 challenger. You'd be better off selling it and getting the T handle as a unit. Probably make a few buck too as that is a one year item if I remember correctly

Thats what somebody else said, would the linkage also be from the challenger, or are they the same?,and where can I get a t handle set up, with shift assembly?, was that a 71 b body thing only? thanx for your help.

i would think everything you have right now would fit / work since they are basically the same car in that section/ regard. However i don't know if there were linkage changes between the two. I would keep yours as a " package" for just that reason- one year only and MA did some silly $h!t like that back in the day

The Slapstik came on basically every cuda challenger charger and satellite auto with the console, from 71-74. these are , (obviously), a lot more common than the one you have.

check the swap meets there are always a few at a decent sized meet.

Actually in 1974 they went back to putting a ball console shifter in the B-body. It's not the same as found as the '70 E-bodies. As I recall it's taller than the E-body, but it's been years since I've seen a '74 B-body console car as I don't get out much. I think they changed it due to the fact the plastic ones tend to break if you're not careful.
