To stripe or not to stripe that is the question?

I just decoded my Runner's fender tag to see what all goodies she came with. Is there a code for the stripes? my trim codes out to be the deluxe trim. She currently does not have them. Wondering if stripes were a coded factory item or a dealer add on item? Are stripe delete cars unusual? All I see are cars with the stripe package in one form or another.

Stripe codes will appear on the fender tag. I guess the possible exception here could be on a Lynch Road car which seems to be the exception on everything, but someone who's better versed at this than I (like Eric or Dave) would have to chime in on that.

Not sure just how unusual cars sans stripes are. Mine didn't come with any stripes either.

Good info. Thanks. I'm kind of torn. Wanting to do something to offset the dark green (of which the fan is not a huge fan of) but don't want to harm the value of car (I guess that it really matters? Seeing as how it doesn't have original engine and trans...big block converted to small block...going back with proper 72 big block and trans).

Given the above details....what I put before the board is, what would you do?

Our own Dave once owned a dark green Road Runner with a gold strobe stripe over the roof. Even though I'm not a major fan of the dark green on these cars (yes, I once owned a dark green '71 GTX!), the combo on the car looked REALLY good... even though it was just a project car Dave had bought to flip.

To answer your question, the strobe stripe is a vinyl decal that could be peeled off with relative ease if anybody wanted to. Have at it, it'll look great!

I have the deluxe trim package but without the strips. The strobe stripe was extra I think.

There were 3 different stripes available for 1972 RR's
V8_ Quarter panel strobe stripe
V9_ Hood and fender stripes - Tank Tracks
V21 V25 Hood and deck lid stripes - must have N96

So about 60% of all 72' RR's had one form of these stripes.
Little under a half had no stripe at all.
My car was not ordered with a stripe.
With the canopy vinyl top the strobe stripe looks AWESOME.
Don't know why everyone didn't order it this way?
MaMopar gave you lots of options back then.
Maybe 73-74 had higher percentage?
Chrysler figured if you couldn't go fast you should look cool and have stripes for performance models.
Also stripes were nearly 100% profit as an option, an easy way to make profits and everyone loved them.
Mopar made some of the best styling and stripes of any auto maker.

stripes were factory installed, and would have been coded on the fender tag...generally on the top line

i think if you have an ag hood car and want stripes you should use the hood and deck lid stripes not the stobe that is if "i" were putting stripes on because i wanted. if you decide you want a strobe and have a stadard hood i think they look better when they are the same color as the background on the hood call outs. just my 2 cents. really though, i like the cars without the stripes and that have actual road runner emblems above the rear wheels, especially with a full vinyl top.
