Does anyone know the purpose or intent of the 13 lb. hunk of cast iron bolted near the rear driveshaft yoke? There are (3) rubber isolated mounting points where the piece hangs from studs beneath the floor. Location is actually in the driveshaft tunnel between the LH and RH rear footwells. What years and body styles included these things? Does it have to do with isolating/absorbing vibrations/harmonics?

Eric, thank you! I couldn't have asked for a more thorough answer. The TSBs were a plus! I'd love to paw through that stack of 1000+ TSBs you mentioned in your Feb 11, 2007 post. cheers to you!
