I have a Classic Industries catalog and they have three or four different spoilers along with the front ones as well. I'm looking at getting them for my 71 as well.

Spoilers were an option that were sadly discontinued for the '72 Plymouths. Although they did offer a front one in the aftermarket options catalog for '72. I liked the looks of the '71 rear spoiler. I ordered one and the front chin spoilers at the local Plymouth dealership and installed them on my '72 Road Runner back in 1972. It's all a matter of personal taste. In other words, I don't care for the looks of the '70 spoiler as it reminds me of the Ford, and I'm a diehard Mopar man. Have owned nothing but Mopars all of my life. Yes, I know some of the very early '71 Road Runners & GTXs came with the Ford style rear spoiler.

Keep in mind, if you buy a 71 spoiler, the trunk lid on your 72 most likely does not have the factory cut outs on the inside skin.

So where is the best place to buy a rear spoiler? Wasn't there a place years back making them called First Place Auto Products? I was thinking they were like the first ones making them. I remember hearing something about them in Mopar Muscle magazine, and the mag said the spoilers they looked at were perfect repo's. I haven't kept up on much, but maybe someone makes a better one, nowadays. Also, approx what month would Chrysler have switched from the early spoiler to the later gull wing spoiler? I need to check when my car was made. Thanks Guys!

First Place makes about the best reproduction. Their first attempts years ago weren't that good, but the ones they make now look very accurate.
There's no set date for when the switch from 70 to 71 happened. Seems they were just using up the left over 70 stock. The only way to know for sure is to find photos of your car when it was new. I wouldn't expect to see 70 spoilers on cars built after Sept 70... but I happen to know of one original owner survivor with an April 71 build date that has a 70 style spoiler and the owner tells me it' was on the car the day he picked it up from the dealer.

Buy one from First Place, they are the best. Also theirs comes with a template for drilling the holes.
