Brake lines/fuel lines

Post by rr6pak » Tue Apr 02, 2013 6:30 am

Thinking of replacing my brake lines and fuel lines to stainless steel on my 71. Who is the best overall, Fine lines or In-line tube, or any other? Fit, leaks, customer service if there is a issue?

Also, wanting to replace the brake cables as well.

Thanks

I purchased E brake kit at in-line tube. I went with them because they are local, and I could save on shipping.Quality and service was good and will go back for Brake and fuel lines.

Fine Lines brake lines on my Runner... all VERY nice and fit VERY well until we got to the 8-3/4. The left side had to be re-bent and the right side was nowhere near close. We bent our own and used it instead. Have no idea whether that was an unusual issue or a USUAL one with their product... also don't know if they simply sent the wrong line or whether the issue has been addressed. At the time my build was on a REAL tight deadline and I cared more about getting it DONE than fussing with them over one line.

All that said, other than that one line on the right rear all was real nice and fit well, and I'd use them again... But this time if something didn't fit I'd make them aware of it, and see how their service is to deal with on working out PROBLEMS...

i am trying to shop for these same items at this same time. furthermore, i will say most of what i read over on moparts recommended fine lines. however, i sent a quote request to the sales email address on their site more than 10 days ago and i have not got a reply by phone or email, i did get a quick reply from in-line and right stuff, but i have not made any purchase yet and have no info on actual parts. also i noticed you said your thinking of stainless, i did read on fine lines faq page that they recommend when changing to stainless that you change the brass dist blocks because the hardness of the stainless will not allow it to conform to the seat already imprinted in the block and that is what causes most leaks when switching to stainless. when i stripped my car apart for paint i broke the old line fittings off in the front block, so i had already purchased those before reading that info.

This is what my email was about from In-Line. Also, I knew about this but there were a post that someone had submitted that you put a conical washer on before the line to eliminate the leaks. Least that what is done too on aircraft

Here is what In-line sales department just emailed me in regarding the stainless.

"Yes, the stainless lines will hook up fine to our valves. The problem is that stainless is a little harder than the steel lines and if the brass is not soft enough it will not seal. Since we make both products there will be not problems."

I know and have seen them leak before. Guess its a 50/50 crap shoot

well, i ordered mine today from year one and used a discount code - "web4713" - good until midnight 4-7 and got 20% off list price. if you are ordering both fuel and brake and they have some other things you want you also get another 5% off everything if you spend $500. i guess i will see how they fit a couple months from now, however as soon as i get them i plan to lay them outh beside the ones i removed so i can look for obvious problems. one of the post i read on moparts stated that their year one line came from the manufacturer in Mi, and that would be in line tube as far as i can tell. with that in mind and the discount this weekend that was where i purchased.

i am late getting back to this i have had my parts for a while however the old lines are at another garage accross town where i took the car apart, and i have been spending my time on the front suspension lately. furthermore i noticed you already have your parts according to another post you started but for future viewers here is my follow up. as i posted earlier i ordered brake lines and fuel lines from year one. my car had manual front drums 8.75 rear and a 383. i have compared the front brake lines and the front to rear and they look similar as far as i can tell. the rear end is with the car at the body shop and i cant tell you how that line compares. although i had the standard 383 set up with a main fuel line and a vapor line, i am replacing it with the larger 3/8 main line, with the 1/4 return line, and 5/16 vapor line. the new main line and the new vapor line also look very similar to the lines i took out of my car, i cant speek to how the 1/4 return line would look compared to an original but looking at it with me set i dont see any reason why it should have any problems. the lines did take about 2&1/2 weeks to show up and while they are higher than some others at list price if you are on the email list and get special offers of 20%-30% off they are a fair price.
