1971 Roadrunner with 383

I'm hoping for some clarification regarding a car I'm looking at. It's a 383 car but it was manufactured in October 1970. Would this early production date make this 383 a high compression 383 with 1970 specs? I'm assuming it's early production and that there would be leftover 1970 383's that they didn't dispose of. If anyone has any information on this topic, it would be appreciated. It would be great to have the 335 hp engine over the 300 hp lower compression.

Is this possible or just wishful thinking??

Unfortunately it sounds like dreaming to me. I don't consider October of 1970 to be early. Considering they start building them in early August. With as many 1971 RRs as they made. I doubt if they had any left over early 383 hi-po engines by then.

Ditto on ILUV72RRs assessment. 1971 production started in early August, and any chance of a leftover engine would have been gone by October. Scott.

No chance for a large stockpile of engines left over at the end of model year, certainly not big enough to last until October. That inventory was matched and sequenced pretty closely to vehicle production. Any leftover inventory likely would have been converted to service parts.

I drove it today.....it was a dog! My 440 GTX is in a different league...

That's to bad. Can't compare apples to oranges.The big question are you still going to get the car?

If you still get the car, the good news is that this is no longer 1971 and the car does not have any government regulations regarding emissions any longer. This, of course means, you can do internal changes without worry of the car not passing smog. Heck, they are even exempt in California, the smog check capital of the world!
