Engine size question

Post by wejewill » Fri Feb 08, 2013 9:18 pm

Good Evening,
My name is Jeff and I am new to your site - extremely excited to find kindred spirits. I own a 1972 Road Runner made in the St. Louis plant. Sequence number is 118366 and has a military special order sheet stating it was ordered with an E68 440 4bbl and a D13 3 spd floor shift tran. But, from the research I've done, E68 (which is on the fender tag) is for a 400, the block number is 3614230-2 which is also for a 400. I know that this is the original engine. Is it possible that my car has a 440 in it? Or is it more likely a typo on the order form? I have the orginal purchase order form, build sheet and the fender tag with the car.
Thanks so much,
Jeff

That looks good Jeff. Welcome to the nest from another recent newbie. The casting number doesn't lie - it's a 400. A 440 would automatically make it a Roadrunner GTX,I do believe. I had a 400 RR long ago. Not quite the brute that a 440 was, but a Roadrunner nevertheless.

Hard to tell from the pic - what is the paint code / color? Doesn't appear to need much work. Post more pics and a detailed description. Any history you know, your plans for it, etc.

Think you'll find this site a great resource with a lot of helpful folks.

Hey Jeff,
Great looking car you got there. The 440 on the order sheet is most likely a typo. Welcome to the Nest!
Scott.

Thanks for the engine confirmation.
The original color is CY8 (gold leaf poly); however, it was not repainted in the original color. I'm currently working to restore it to as close as original as possible. History: originally purchased by a serviceman, special military order. From what I was told I am the third owner. I'll post more pics soon.
The engine was completely removed and rebuilt with a lot of help from friend, Joe Basile.
