15/16/17" ?

I bet this isn't the first thread about this topic, but anyway.... I need some advise! Wheels and tires make or brake the car, so I want to make a good choice.

I can't decide which wheels and tires to take for my 72 Roadrunner : 15"/16"/17" ??? and what tire size (front and rear) ???

I have the original wheels (14") and I think this too small, but 17"seems too large to me...

What do you guys think about this?

It's all a matter of taste.

14" was stock on most cars or the era. Tire selections has become scarce though.

15" is the old school choice. 27-28" tall tires generally give the best appearance.

17" and up options are out there for the restomod choice.

The search button is your friend. Use it. Here and on the other Mopar forums.

17 x 7" on the front and 17 x 8" on the back... only wish I had found some tires that had more sidewall height. But eventually I WILL.

Hi! I am actually running 14"x 5.5" in the front and have 15"x 7" on the back. I think it has a classic stance this way. Unfortuneately, I don't have any pics at this time.

I think 14" Wheels are too small for our cars. 15" are okey if you are going for a date correct look. I went 17" Wheels fitted with 50 profile tires. This gives a great balance I think, the Wheels fit great in the large Wheel openings.

Bruce, what size tires are you running? Do you see any reason why these wouldn't fit on a 1973-74 ?

I'll actually have to check the tire size on the car when I get home this evening... don't let me forget! :D

As for running them on a '73-'74. Absolutely no reason I'm aware of why you couldn't!

funny you mentioned that Eric, I was going to ask you next! Love your wheels, too BTW! I was looking at those exact wheels. I take it they are the9" versions? How do the fronts clear? I know the 73-74 have iso but I put the firm feel kit on the k frame now it is solid. Front fenders are different, too. Just curious, thanks for your replies. Bruce , I was looking at wheels just like yours, too, and your car, although a different year, is the same color as mine so you photo gives me a really good idea was to the final look. Eric's is the first 71-74 b body Plymouth I have seen a picture of with the new 17" rally's !

Hi,

I was always going to go with Magnum 500s as my ideal wheels. My '72 SSP came with original equipment 14 in. Rallyes like your car (which, to be honest, I never liked - I thought they were too small for the body). I bought my car 20 years ago for $2800 - a lot at the time, but it is / was a full matching number car in good original condition. I chose 15 x 7 Magnum 500s with Firestone Firehawks (sorry, don't remember tire sizes) as 15 in. wheels are much easier to get tires for and this wheel / tire combination gives me a factory-looking stance I think suits a 'luxury' Roadrunner like my SSP. If I were to change anything I might go a slightly bigger tire, but would stick with the 15 in. wheels.

Thanks again for all your replies! Ian, I am also running Indy 500 tires in 15 x 7 rallyes 255/60/15 rear and 235/60 /15 front. The whole story is this: I like a car that handles and is comfy first. I had completely rebuilt my suspension 8 years Go with ISO delete, front and rear sway bars, new leaf springs and torsion bars, firm feel stage two steering, all the goodies. However, I always thought the stance of the car was wrong. After google researche of part numbers, I found I had 4" lift leafs in the rear! The suspension was so tight I was rolling the front tires over on hard corners! I am going with either hotchkiss or mp leafs. The hotchkiss are 1" drop or I can reverse front spring hanger for about 1/1.5" on the mp units. Then I can let the front down accordingly. I also have 11.75 brake upgrade parts waiting.i will try to attach pics of car as it is now .
