71 383 should be orange. Check if someone dropped in a 400 (painted blue from factory).

Ck everything out. The original owner of my RR blew the engine up,and the dealer put a 400 in under warranty, they had stopped production of the 383.Look on the right side of the block right above the oil pan to ck the vin.The last numbers should be the same as the car.If its blank it could be a warranty eng.And the other person could be correct also, just a 400 from the junk yard.

Is it an A/C car? Is it blue or turquois? Check the vin stamp and casting numbers.

Several potential explanations, but best not to speculate without the above info.

it is not an original A/C car and the paint is more turqoise--not regular blue---does that make a difference?

If it's really turquoise, it's a 383 from an earlier model year. Turquoise was phased out during the 1970 model year.

383 4BBL A/C cars tended to get turquoise or blue engines, although there have been exceptions noted.

Note that turquoise tends to fade to a light blue and often gets mistaken of the later corporate engine blue, especially when you find it under a later of orange.

That said a 71 383 HP should be orange. You need to check your numbers.

the RR was made on sept. 16 1970 --maybe it was painted that color--i will check on that this week! i hope maybe they painted over the orange----i am getting it delivered this week from the guy i bought it from!---OK if i open the hood and look at the engine----what side do i look under to see the matching numbers--view point straight at the shroud fan looking in!!

Vin number will be on passenger side located along the bottom edge of the engine block where it meets the oil pan. There should be an area that is machined flat (a long rectangle) and has your vin number in it. Also, 383 2 bbl cars where painted turquois. I know RR's were not 2 bbl cars, but SSP's were. Transmission has same thing, passenger side but usually exhaust is in the way to get a clear look at numbers. I hope this helps. Someone probably just liked the blue, or ????

Do you know the VIN number of the car? To be an original road runner it needs to start with RM23.

Good....I've seen Satellites advertised for sale as road runners....someone not knowing the proper VIN could buy a clone and not know it.....

Cool options. The F91 is probably F81. No matter what the decoders say, on a 71 runner this does not indicate a remote trunk lid release. It's an unknown code that shows up on some Winsor built cars.
Does your car have wheel opening moldings and rear bumper/valance blackout stripes?

i looked on the back bumper --did not see the black stripe on it --but bumper was looking kinda rough---they could have fallin off in time---looks like the original bumper---rusted--the car has been sitting since 1986---motor turns---but i will go thru it anyways---ALSO the front bumper and grill and other parts are in the trunk---i will look for open wheel moldings!!! missing the little roadrunner head that was on the front of the grill---noticed that !! ggrrr!

Late production 340s have been documented to be blue, in B and E bodies in '71 model year.
Does anyone in the nest have an original engined '71 with a blue B or RB engine?
