Anybody tell me what this is for? It was in line with the fuel line between pump and carb.
Thanks!

Vapor separator. The cars that had that didn't have a filter.I think.

That is the vapor separator. It is used in place of the fuel filter. It has a filter screen in it. You should also have a 1/4" hard steel return line that goes back to the tank. The smaller nipple on the bottom near the outside rim is the return line. A small piece of 1/4" rubber line should go from that to the 1/4" steel hard line. Your sending unit at the tank should also have a 1/4" nipple for the hard line to connect to.

They were stock on 440 HP, 440+6, and 426 equipped cars from 71 on.

With todays crap gas they actually help a great deal with vapor lock.

Thanks, there is a 1/4 steel hard line coming from the tank foreward.
When I got the car way back it had an electric Holley feulpump, but I am getting all back to original. Does that mean I do not have to put a fuel filter in? Obviously this cannister is from '72.
Any guess to where it bolt on to the engine with that bracket?
Appreciate the help

It bolts on with the fuel pump, if you don't run the return style filter you do need a regular filter
