Does anyone know if they made a Differential Oil Cooler for the 8 3/4? I thought I saw one for the Dana on State Trooper cars.
As you guessed, I'm thinking of adding one since the 4.10s are running a little warm with the Freeway driving at 70. Figured a little extra cooling will help when am running 6 hours at 80 +.

Re: Differential Oil Cooler
Run synthetic fluid and forget about it.
Police package cars never came with a Dana as far as I know. The 9 1/4 was the common rear for the 72 up big blocks.

Re: Differential Oil Cooler
I doubt the factory ever offered one.
My brother in law engineered one on his road race car with 8" ford.
He didn't use a pump, and swore it worked great.
I don't have any photos, but can pump him for details if you decide to go that route.
I used to drive 60 miles to a drag strip, and install a pinion snubber, even with 3:55s that dif would get hot!

Re: Differential Oil Cooler
It's completely unnecessary on a street car... 4.10s or not. Light trucks run thay ratio all the ime on the highwau and differntial problems are almost unheard of. You'd have to be running different sized tires on each side to generate the kind of heat that would cause failure.
The intense heat generated from the constant turning/cornering in a road race car is a different story.

Re: Differential Oil Cooler
I stay away from full synthetic anywhere there are rollerbearingls. The stuff is too slick and the bearings will actually slide and not roll. I just happen to be reading a thread where guys had problems with extended hi-speed driving where the gears failed.
I can put together a system, I was just wondering if the factory had something.b I would swear I read the police had one for western state patrol cars. And could have been the 9 1/4.
Thanks
