Trim Rings

Lets see if anybody here knows about trim rings. Does any one make correct trim rings for a 71 with rally wheels.

I did not find any a couple of years ago.
I did find new old stock.
What did you come up with?

The Wheel Vintiques reproductions are closest I found for the 15x7” Rallye. It’s my understanding there are some details that are not correct however.

Where did you find NOS ones? The Wheel Vintiques are....well awful in my opinion. The lip is supposed to be polished and it should have a finish like 380 to 400 grit. The wheel vintiques look like 80 grit. And they are a bunch of as. H...s. I bought a set and when I told them how bad theirs were all they said was ..no body else complained.I sent them back and swapped for polished ones and they charged me a 20 percent restocking fee.

I bought a set of nos 14" rings from an ad on Moparts. They were still in the original boxes.

I wouldn’t describe them as awful, as I said, there are details about them that not originally correct, the brushed pattern being one of them. They do fit the 15x7” wheel correctly and as far as I have found, they are the only game in town at this time, reasonable pricing for what they are as well. Still waiting for a complete set of NOS 15x7” pieces in un-opened boxes to fall my way too, will have to win the lottery to pay for them likely.

I was thinking about finding a machine shop and see if there was some way to chuck up these polished ones and do it the way they should be. Thats the way it is now, you pay for something and still have to do it yourself.

This guy locally here mounted a polished trim ring on a tireless rim without any valve stems on it. Then mounted it to his axle, started the car and spun the wheel. He made a sandpaper on a stick type of tool and held it on the rim to do his own brushing. The ring looked really good after he was done.
Not so sure about mounting the rim on the axle is the right thing to do but maybe it would be easier if you mount the rim on an old axle and chuck that to the lathe.

Thanks thats a good idea. Kind along the line of what I was thinking. Nothing wrong whit it on the car ether. I have one of the old real balancing machines that spin the wheel on the car.People used to do that all the time.
