Subframe Connector Help?
I got a few toys recently and I'm eyeballin' the subframe connectors for my '72. Anyone ever install these? If so what brand? Weld in? Bolt in?
It's basically a stock car frame/body-wise. I got the leaf spring relocation kit waiting to go in, as well as a new set of Super Stock springs since my old ones are twisted up. Just wanna know what you guys have worked with, because I couldn't really find anything on Google installing these in our cars. A bunch of A-bodies and cars up to 1970 was all I could find.
Thanks!

Here is a link to when I installed a set on my Challenger.

Sorry when I loaded the album I didn't make sub albums, but there are pictures of the install.
I used US CARTOOL parts. They fit well but with any brand there is going to be some fab work to do.
Lot's of welding and grinding.

US Car Tool on mine as well. My car was sort of a prototype for them and their '71 and up B-Body connectors.

US Car Tool for me too. John gave me a set when I was down there picking up my Demon.

Re: Subframe Connector Help?
I used the MPP units. Bolted them in first then eventually welded them in place. There is a minimum of cutting the floor with these. Just the rear floor. Big difference in the way the car handles.
4th generation B bodys- there is no substitute.

Re: Subframe Connector Help?
Oh, and don't forget, torque boxes will help too. Shoot, Car Tool offers a whole unibody strengthening kit that will get you all kinds of bracing to weld in. Also, if you really want to talk stiff, weld in a cage or roll bar and weld up the seams in the body solid--that will contribute to a stiffer unibody rather than one just held together with spot welds...

Re: Subframe Connector Help?
With welding in sub-frame connectors, how do you seal the welds on the inside so they dont rust, or is that something not to worry about?
With torque boxes there is a hole, so you can spray inside after they're welded in.

Drill access holes in the floor pan inside the bar. Then body plugs for the wholes, all covered by carpet.

Re: Subframe Connector Help?
You guys are awesome. Thanks for all the replies.
Lot of rough stuff has been going on by me lately. Sorry I haven't been back. I remember looking at XV's connectors, but read in a mopar magazine that they weren't quite as rigid as they hoped, but were better than nothing.
I wouldn't mind going all out and putting a cage and a four link in, but it's just too expensive, I don't have the tools to do something like that. I plan on keeping this thing forever anyway. Maybe one day.
I ran all-new 1/2" aluminum fuel lines this past summer, but it looks like I gotta cut it all up again so I can do the leaf relocation and subframe connectors. Exhaust has to go too, move the electric fuel pump somewhere else, it's going to get complicated mighty fast. I saw Competition Engineering sold some connectors with the relocation built in, but they said it needed rear frame rails too, and I don't have the right equipment to back-half the car. The torque boxes are a great idea too. I'm going to have to look up US Car Tool and see what we can come up with.
