What to offer for an Airgrabber hood?

A friend of mine has an original airgrabber cut hood and bubble but no door and I dont think he has anything else for underhood. What should I offer for a solid hood and bubble?

Offer him fifty bucks. When he screams bloody murder at you, "No Way!!!" Or something to that effect. Then ask him how much he wants for it. From there see if you can work out a deal that satisfies both of you. I always hated someone asking me, "What's it worth to you?" I'd rather know what sort of price I'm up against. Then trying to read the guy's mind. No, I didn't always get to buy the part doing that. But there were times I paid less than I thought the guy was going to ask.

I can't do that for this as he knows they are valuable and we are good friends but I need to know what a sane human being would pay for something like this. I dont need it and he doesn't need it either plus its going to cost thousands to complete with the prices everyone charges for the 'little' pieces. The huge plus is I dont have to ship it. If I don't buy it then it will probably just rot into the mud.

You can buy a complete kit minus the Sattlite hood for $1350.00 So depending what condition the parts are in you should be able to negotiate a price from there.
You could also check ads for what each piece is selling for also.

Also the hood it's self is not that valuable as with the kit anyone can make a hood from a Sat hood.
With out the door and hinge some one would have to piece together all the rest any way.
Some times buying this type of parts from a friend can cause more problems than it's worth.

I agree with the above. The hood is not worth much, nor is the bubble. The parts all together are worth something, but the hood and the bubble are worth about $100 in my opinion.

Thats what I was thinking, maybe a couple hundred bucks but not much (its like buying a money pit) I still think I might want to pick it up if I can get it cheap and collect the parts as I go as I can finish the car without it. I'll try and get him to dig out all the parts he has, hopefully he has the rest of the underhood stuff.

Don't be afraid to rattle the cage of a friend with an offer. I did this with good friends. As well as guys I didn't know. Nothing ventured, nothing gained! I know when I get around to putting the one I have on my car. I don't want all of the stuff underneath the hood. That makes it functional. I'll just rig it with the scoop open. To save a lot of weight off of the frontend.

Exactly, I dont need it on my car as I have a RR hood which is becoming less common as everybody has an airgrabber. If I get it I get it and if I dont then that doesnt bother me (just like the 72 RR grill which only a mentally insane person would spend $2500 on)

It seems like everyone wants to put an airgrabber hood on their Road Runner. It does look mean. But I'm sort of with you. As I get more oldy & moldy. I find that I'm starting to like the stock Road Runner hood more and more now. No offense to you '73 & '74 RR owners. But that was the thing that disappointed me about the styling of that hood. They went away from the twin scallop hood styling. I guess it could be argued that they sort of made it look more like a '70 RR hood. It's taken me years to warm up to that body (hood) styling. I liked the '68 & '69 better because of their hood. Sorry guys, but the '70 hood reminded me of a mini Chevy Chevelle or Camaro hood look, and I don't care at all for Chevies. Which is just my own personal opinion. Regarding spending mucho bucks for a '72 RR grille. Yeah, it probably is crazy. Unless it's mint. In the box. Never been on a car, deal. Then you might consider it. Put it this way. If you're car is completely done. Will the grille increase the value of the car more than $2500.00? if you have to sell it someday? Then yes, it's worth it. If not, then you don't need it at that price. But I will tell you this. It's best when you're not using your '72 RR. To park it in the shade or in the garage protected from the sun. If you can. The '72 lower center section of the grille. Along the bottom. Tends to warp with age and sun heat exposure. Some worse than others. Generally the '71 grille seems to stand up better to the weather.

Well let me know because those are the two pieces I need for my car to replace the units damaged in the rollover from years ago. It would save me some serious goofing around we could come to a deal. Where is it located..roughly? Mine is an original N96 car so I have to fix it one way or the other.

The other thing is what year is it for? I need a 71 hood with the single cowl vent, and what shape is are the two pieces in?


I just picked up a mint 71 Satellite hood for $60 from Craigslist last week to make into a N96 unit. Saves me time and a good and a good hood to use somewhere else.

Air grabber hood with just the bubble, 500 bucks give or take.

There's a lot more to making an air grabber,than just grabbing a hood. There's an early 71 and a late 71 hood. There are 3 crush zones in an early one and only 2 in a late one, each side. You need a bracket for the activator which is welded into the hood. You need the correct pattern to cut it by. Top and bottom. By the time you add in the stuff needed to make it work, you might as well just pay the price for a real one.

My original airgrabber cost a fortune to restore. The bubble is made out of fiberglass, the repo's are probably plastic, if that matters to you.

I cant imagine cutting the hole into a standard hood and making it look like a factory stamp. Do you need a hood? How much would it cost to ship one to you whereas this one is here. Is it mint? If I needed a hood I'd have to have one shipped which would cost a fortune. Depending on the condition of the hood and bubble, it could be worth $700-$1500 to me.

Good points here about the value of a factory hood. Thinking about this more - another way to think about it is what I would sell one for if I had it. I probably wouldn't take less than $500 for the pair - but that assumes that I had an extra!! If it was the only one I had - I don't think I'd part with it!!

when i bought mine for 1500 it was for everything, switch, air cleaner, canister
