You can't break down production numbers based on color. The best you can do is say that X-percent of total production was painted EV2, and get an approximate number of Satellites that way. FWIW, I don't know what the X in that X-percent would be. Maybe someone else can chime in with an educated guess.

Like I said on another post.
The only way to know is to find a copy of the "Options and Accessories Report- Shipment" for 1971 Plymouth for that model.
At the end of the production year they totaled up all the engine, trans, axle, options built for each model.
Using their fancy data-punch entry cards and computers they came up with percentages of the total for each option (including paint).
It wasn't a totaly an exact number but it was close enough for them to see what sold and what didn't.
Like power streering option S77 was on almost 80% of 1972 Road Runners at $113.70 it was EXPENSIVE but almost every RR had it.
Pure porfit for Ma Mopar.
All I have for 1971 is 3.2% of the entire Satellite line was painted EV2 Tor-Red.
You are going to need to find someone with that report that is willing to share those numbers with you on 1971 SSP's

There you go, 3.2%. Now how many SSPs were built total?

I see 16,253 SSP's were made for 1971 but the entire Satellite line total was 146,266 (which includes all 2-door, 4-door and wagons) or 125,072 (with out wagons).
So 3.2% of 146,266 I get 4,689.5 cars painted that color or 4,002 if no wagons.
Is see the numbers on the breakdowns on this site are 4,492.
How many were SSP's?
The only way to say is to have the report.
810 or so 1972 Road Runners were painted EV2 in 1972 with production being 7,628.
SSP's were more that double that number but less were painted an optional high-impact color like EV2.
So if I were to take a educated guess say 6% were painted that color would be ... about 975??????????????

Yeah, that was my thought too, SSPs would have been LESS likely to be painted in EV2. Gotta be a cool car!

There's one out here in southern California that is alive and well. It's a rubber bumper car. Unfortunately when you're young. You tend to be narrow minded. In other words. If it isn't a Road Runner, a GTX, or . . . it ain't a car. Hence, why Belvederes, Satellites and Sepring Plus cars were turned into "Road Runners," etc.. Because the guy wanted to be accepted at the local cruises as having a muscle car, and not dad's transportation. Plus at one time it was cheap to buy a RR hood ($20 at Pick-A-Part), emblems, decals, and put them on a car. The average non Mopar guy at a cruise didn't know how to read VIN tags or fender tags to know what they were looking at. I still see that today when a clone big block 'Cuda shows up at a cruise. The non Mopar people go nuts over it. Then there is the elite (?) collector group. If it isn't a real Hemi car. Then it's not worth owning. They won't even walk over to look at a Mopar that isn't a real Hemi car. Yes, they have very deep wallets. I guess it's no different than the Chevy guys who turn everything into either a SS model, or Z28 Camaro. Being a Mopar man all my life. I wouldn't know if I was looking at a "real" one of those, or not. But the guys at the cruises love em. They turn their noses up at "just" a Chevy if it isn't a muscle version for the muscle years. I knew a guy who loved '69 & '70 GTXs. He never had enough money to buy a real one. Even when they were reasonable. But he owned a couple of clones he built over the years. To him they felt like the real deal. No, he wouldn't open the hood, or would remove the fender tag. He'd cover up the dash VIN at a cruise so he could be at peace from the number crunchers.

1972RM23's estimate of 975 seems to be a reasonable guess. Another way to look at it would be:

Just over 16000 SSPs produced.
Just over 17000 RR/GTXs produced.
So pretty even.
Now 3.2% of total production was EV2 - so in the 4000 to 4500 range.

I would estimate that for every EV2 SSP that was made, there were at least 3 to 4 RR/GTXs painted EV2.

So using those ratios, about 800 to 1100 EV2 SSPs would have been produced.

Now - how many EV2 SSPs still exist? Not too many with their original badging intact. Imagine how many high impact SSPs were converted into clones. I am betting alot of them.

Numbers I have show 4492 EV2 production for the total Satellite line in 71. That's as detailed as the information gets.

Definitely an interesting car. I hope everyone is clear on the Galen Govier registry paperwork. When his paperwork says it is 1 of something - take a close look at the top line in the picture. It means that it is 1 of whatever according to HIS registry. Take a look at the second line: he only has 14 RP23L1's in HIS registry - There were alot more than 14 Sebring Pluses built with the 383 engine. His registry is probably very inadequate when it comes to the lesser Satellite/Charger lines. If you got a HEMI/440+6, then he probably has a little better grasp on the numbers made etc etc. The Gold 74 Charger 360 4bbl that just sold at Barrett Jackson was a Galen Govier 1 of 5 built - again 1of 5 that were in HIS registry. Just a word of caution when you are dealing with the "Guru's" handywork.
Scott.
