Factory undercoating

Post by lb71fish » Thu Jan 27, 2005 8:49 am

I have seen a lot of restored 71 b body cars with just beautiful undercarriages. When I talked to them they say there cars never came with factory undercoating. My question is did many of the 4th generation B body's come with this option and what is the code for this and is it on the fender tags? This question probably is universal for any later Chrysler made car.

There isn't anyway to know how many came with under coating. It would not show on the fender tag only on the broadcast sheet. I have an original, no rust, 71 GTX that came from Jersey originally, and it has a ton of undercoating. I have hand scraped it all off so I know it was original. After painting the under carriage dark grey primer I will over spray it body color and I will re-apply it just as I found it.

Factory undercoating was typical for cars sold in the snow belt. There certainly are cars out there that never had it, but EVERY old Mopar I've owned (and this goes back to the 70s) has had factory undercoating.
