Gas tank

The gas tank on my 1972 RR has developed a small pin hole leak somewhere around the strap (driver's side back).
If I took off the strap could I spray on a sealer?
Assuming I get the tank empty enough to stop the leak.
Is there anyway to seal a gas tank (spray on, brush on)?

Or should I just buy a new tank?
My gas tank has the 4 vent tubes on the side.
Is that the same for a 1971 and 1972 gas tank?
As far as I know the vent tubes are not hooked up to anything anymore.

Thanks
Steve

I've never tried a sealer...it may work as a temporary fix.

You tank is the '71 (until April of '72) version, aka- early version. I've seen new tanks (I need to buy one too) from about $175 to $230...just make sure that you get the one that says '4 side vents'.

There are some pretty effective sealers out there, but price and availability of new tanks makes them a better option. Chances are the inside of the tank is pretty rusty.

The disconnected vapor separator is probably a subject for a different thread and has been discussed in depth on other forums (do a quick search). Personally, I prefer to have it hooked up. When functioning, it has no performance penalty and does a good job eliminating the gas fumes from the garage. Just have to scrounge up all the missing parts.

Quanta is the other maker of aftermarket tanks...they've been making them longer than the others, but I haven't either (yet) so I can't speak to the quality.

I also need a late '72 tank and will likely go with the Spectra unit based solely on price.

Quanta carries the same part number as spectra ( CR10A ) so i suspect they are made by the same company.

Well, sonofabitch...never even noticed that.

All this time I thought they had their own supplier.
