fuel pump

Post by roelbest » Mon Jun 27, 2011 2:08 pm

I am having a real hard time to find a fuel pump for my '72 440 RR here in the UK. Up to '71 is available, but for some reason nobody stock a pump for a '72 car.
Is there a difference between '71 and '72? My car had electric pump when I bought it, but with the restoration I want to go back to stock. i have no idea what a '72 pump should look like.
All that is listed here is for a '72 400 and non HP 440
Thanks for the help

Looks like www.rockauto.com has a bosch mechanical fuel pump for a 1972 RR 440 U code. It lists it as a HP application with a 3/8" fuel line. I am not a big block expert, just have had good results from rock auto - someone please chime in and say whether this is the right part or not. Good luck!

The only fuelpump I found here in the UK is for a '71 U code 440. It does not look like it will fit, should there be a shaft or something going into the fitting? As I did not had an original pump, I have no idea how it should fit for '72. Should the stud be there or is there something that push upwards into the block. I guess I am missing the obvious!!
thanks

You didn't mention the fuel pump pushrod. It is installed through the hole in the block below the fuel pump mounting hole. In your photo you've got it filled with a threaded plug. Remove the plug, put some grease on the pushrod, push it up into the hole in the block (internal, you can see it in the picture) the grease will hold it up, out of the way, install the pump, tighten the bolts, don't forget to replace the threaded plug! You're done. :)

Thanks, I thought there is a rod missing. The car had electric pump, this space was blocked off. Now to try and get a pushrod.... Appreciate the help
