Inner Fender to Firewall Seam

As I was finishing up sanding / priming my engine compartment, I noticed that on both sides, the inner fender lip is cracked and slightly separated where it connects to the firewall.

The pictures I posted are where the passenger side firewall meets the inner fender (with hood hinges removed). While I know it shouldn't be cracked, I am wondering if this gap is within 'normal' tolerances, or if I need to get this tacked back together.

Has anyone come across this? What should this seam look like?

Thanks

Without going out and looking at mine, it's hard to say, but that seam usually is filled with seam sealer, then painted.
