I've been told the air cleaner on my '72 440 should be black? You guys agree?

I am thinking the same, exept for the headers the car is very original.

Agreed, should be orange. Black was correct for 71.

I thought black was for all non-HP engines...440/400/383 got the orange?

Not sure if you would consider me the "best" candidate to answer but in my opinon and my mind set; I belive orange came stock.

On mine the snorkle on the pass side is shorter than the drivers side....Is this the wrong base for a 72 440 car???And another vote for orange...I had an original in 76 and it was orange on a 400 4 speed car..

Jim, I recall seeing one of your pictures you posted of your RR/GTX showing a 74' and later wide angled air cleaner housing on it. Any of later the oval cross-sectioned snorkeled air cleaners would not be correct for a 72'.
