I've been told the air cleaner on my '72 440 should be black? You guys agree?
Thanks

I am thinking the same, exept for the headers the car is very original.
Let's hope some one else can also agree

Agreed, should be orange. Black was correct for 71.

Mine is Orange but the top plate is chrome
Sometimes I get to feeling that if Xmas, Fathers Day and my Birthday did not exist, then aftershave too would not exist.

I thought black was for all non-HP engines...440/400/383 got the orange?

Good question I suppose.

Not sure if you would consider me the "best" candidate to answer but in my opinon and my mind set; I belive orange came stock.

On mine the snorkle on the pass side is shorter than the drivers side....Is this the wrong base for a 72 440 car???And another vote for orange...I had an original in 76 and it was orange on a 400 4 speed car..

Jim, I recall seeing one of your pictures you posted of your RR/GTX showing a 74' and later wide angled air cleaner housing on it. Any of later the oval cross-sectioned snorkeled air cleaners would not be correct for a 72'. Here's a good reference site on Mopar air cleaners.
