Aspect ratio - original wheels

Post by driver » Tue Jan 18, 2011 3:40 am

which are the original tires on a satellite ?
because when i change the diameter - the Speed indicator shows
other results..

in this moment i have mounted :
255 60 R15 - the rim has 15x10 offset - 51mm
they don´t work and have contact to body...
The offset is crazy.. (offroad rims) :cry:

So now i want mount..
front : 225/70 R15 (Rim = 15x8,5 offset -20)
rear : 255/70 R 15 - Rim - same like in the front

is 70 from aspect ratio ok ? i like it when its little bit more hight ;-)

thanks for :help: ...Chris

I think many of them came with 14 inch rims originally, I know my 72 had 14's when I first got it and then I changed it to 15 inch rims and had to raise the rear end a bit so that it would not touch the wheel wells etc especially when you go over a bump it would bottom out a bit. I had the leaf springs adjusted and that solved the issue for me.

depends on what size wheels you have. i have close to stock tires on my 71 at 225/70-14 kinda skinny with taller sidewall, similar to stock height of a F78-14 which was standard on my car. width i'm not sure, but i don't think i would go skinnier than a 225. what i did is checked the sizing on drag tires or repro tires and compared the diamerter, width, etc. to a modern size tire and picked the closest one.

@moparmike
how you adjust the leaf springs ?

@landon1
i think for good handling is in front 225/70 R15 OK, hope so..
the smallest size to mount on my rim is 225 (rim 8.5 inch)
in first time i change only the rims so i must live with 255 in front ..
hope get no contact to body..is only for bodywork .... i would like
to bring the wheel arches back to original condition ...
is so crazy what the previous owner do with the car..

I had a place actually install an additional leaf spring as before it would bottom out with the 15's and just sat to low. Now it is sitting perfect and the bigger rims looks better and the car sits higher. I also adjusted the front up a bit, The 15's are the way to go my car looks way better.

I have 255/60 15s on stock 15x7 rallyes. They fit just fine with only a very little rub on one side at full turn.

I honestly don't know what the stock rallye rim offset is. I'm sure someone on here knows.

B/E&A makes the best reproduction side markers.

If you need the bezels, they reproduce those too.

If you look in the Endorsed Vendors section on this site, you'll find several vendors that offer discounted prices to roadrunnernest members. For sheetmetal, AMD is about the only company manufacturing 71-72 B body parts. You should be able to source AMD through many of our vendors.

Cool, you have block-off plates in place of your side markers? 8)

There are several vendors that sell the front and rear markers but I'm not sure who the original vendor is but Laysons had them first I think...they run around $300us for a set of the front and rear markers and lenses.
