Bucket seat interchangeability

Post by 71Beeper » Wed Jan 12, 2011 2:08 pm

Does anyone know what bucket seats are interchangeable to what years of B-Bodies?
I've heard that E-Body and B-body bucket seat frames are the same - just the foams and covers differ.
Is this true?
What about later year A and B-body to early year? Can I use 72 & up A-Body seat frames or later year B-body seat frames? I do plan on buying new foams and covers to make them into 71 Road Runner seats but I need to buy the seats first...........
Also is there any interchangeability for seat tracks?

You can buy repop seat tracks for fairly cheap now from moparplus.com. I know the seats I got out of a challeger were to short in height to work in my RR.

That's interesting...I wonder if Charger seats are the same?

'71 to '74 Charger seats should be the same as '71 to '74 Road Runner & GTX. Only the seat patterns changed in '73 & '74. '71 & '72 are the same. The Challenger & 'Cuda seat frames are lower than the B-bodies. Which is ok if you want to look like a low rider going down the road!

Does anyone make foams for the 71/72 seats? I have had a set of the black/orange covers for a long time now and a few sets of seats...but I don't know of anyone making b-body seat foams.

Good question. My bucket seat foams for my 71 ssp are not in great shape. Has anyone come across reproduction foam for these seats? Thanks.

The SEATS were too short or the TRACKS were too short?

70/Early 71 B & E frames are the same with different foam, all other years are different from B to E.

In 73 & 74 the E-body upper foam was molded into the frame, so they cannot be altered in any way. E-body seats in 73-4 also had no plastic back like the B-bodies.

Not sure about the earlier years, but 73-later A-body seats are very similar to E-body. I think the base foam is the same, but the upper has a slightly different shape.

All of the above seats will fit on any tracks from 70-76(?). Just make sure you have the right tracks for your car.

Later B-body tracks (Cordoba, Charger, etc.) will NOT work in a 71-74 B-body.

I have not seen repro foam for the B-bodies yet. :(

Thanks for that info quapman. I was hoping that the 71 E-Body seats were the same as I have a line on a set, but wanted to make sure the frames were the same....

Those bucket seat foams on eBay from PG Classic look to be aweful close. I will have to pull out my old foams to take a closer look.

I bought the same pair of seat foam and they work great. There seat covers are alot cheaper and they are good also. I was most impressed with the new door handles I bought from them. Top quality for sure....

Not sure, but I think 71 seats are not the same as 72 - 74, if I'm not mistaken 70 and 71 B Bodies share the same seat frames.

I did end up getting the 71 E-Body seats. But I think they are actually B-Body seats. Someone just put new material over the existing material & I can feel 2 rows of buttons under the new material. I don't think any E-body seats came with the 2 rows of buttons on the backrest and bottom of the seat. At least I got the proper seat tracks!

You feel two rows of buttons underneath? Humm. Those sound to me like they're '73-'74 B-body seats. The '71-'72 B-body seats didn't have any buttons on them.
