Custom Console

Does anyone here know if there is an aftermarket automatic performance shifter that you can fit into a stock console? Like a pistol grip(Non-Mopar) or the like? Anyone ever seen one? I like the console, but I like the activation buttons that come on a lot of aftermarket shifters. I have never seen a setup like the one I'm describing, and I think it might look cool. Thanks for any pics.

The best I can do for you would be a pistol-grip handle that replaces the stock T-handle. (Made in the USA!)

Here is my B+M pro ratchet with reverse lock-out mounted in the console.With a pistol grip handle.

That's cool. I need switches on the handle for a line lock and some NO2. I figure i can control multiple stages with some MSD timing/RPM boxes. I don't like what I have now. it's a momentary toggle switch mounted to the bottom of the T handle. I would like it to have a cleaner look like yours.

Looks like a 1974 shifter. They went back to a ball shifter in '74. The '71 to '73 console shifters used a T handle. Which you had to be careful with. As they didn't like much abuse, and would crack or break.

Yes. My T handle feels very.....delicate. It also doesn't seat very well into the gears. Lot's of slop. Can this be rebuilt. I know the tranny is solid. It's a TCI.

The mechanism is not rebuildable as far as I know, but there are plastic bushings at the ends of the linkage and pivot holes that can be replaced.

I've found that once the detents stop working properly and a good lube doesn't fix it, you pretty much need to find another good, used unit.

Is this true if you replace just the handle? It is the linkage that wears out, or is it play from the handle itself? or both?

My 1973 RR had the ball shifter on it, center console. I always wondered why my friends Chargers had the t shifter, same year. Thought it was a Dodge/Plymouth thing...

In 1974 Mopar went back to a ball shifter for the console. Probably because the T handle ones tend to break if you're not careful with them. Which may of been covered under warranty. Today something like the shifter handle would be one of those recall deals which they didn't have back then.
