74 RoadRunner oil pan

Post by 74roadbird » Wed Dec 01, 2010 8:45 pm

The shop just put a '71 383 into my '74 Runner and ran into a snag. Apparently there is not quite enough clearance for the oil pan. He made it sound like the pan was too far forward. Some local Mopar guys told him that there was a low clearance oil pan made for these engines. Any truth to that, and if so, would a Mopar speed shop carry them?

IIRC, you need the "971" pan for the application, also sold new through any Mopar dealer under the #P5007807AB. May need pick-up # P5007848 as well. The slump on the 71' "402" pan is too far forward for use with the 73-74 B-body K-frame

I will be puting a 70 440 out of a New Yorker in my 74. I have a chrome oil pan, center sump, but no markings, how do you tell the difference?

Thanks, Darren

most of the aftermarket pans are set-up for use in cars. the main issue some are having (me included) with the aftermarket pans is the center link touching the bottom of the pan. however, my stock pan was all beat to crap from the center link rubbing on it also.

As others said, you'll need a rear or center sump oil pan. I think the truck and Cordobas have the right pans. Not sure of the numbers though.
