Sealed Beams or Euro Headlights?

Post by pats71 » Mon Nov 22, 2010 7:36 pm

Anyone running aftermarket H4 Euro style headlights? Or is it better to just keep the sealed beams?

I put a set of H4 projector headlights in my 80' malibu and the difference was phenominally better than sealed beams. Just looking for input and headlight setups.

The biggest issue on these cars is low voltage to the lamps due to drops through the bulkhead connector, dash switch, and foot switch.

First order of business for any lighting upgrade on these cars is installation of relays powered directly from the alternator. Numerous articles and posts on this subject, so I won't rehash it here.

I'm getting ready to install relays on my 72. Just got the relays and pigtails today. Once that is done, I'll install Hella E-code conversion lamps. I've already got the H1 highbeams. Just waiting for a bargain on the H4 Hi/Lows

Most people will find that just installing the relays is improvement enough. I'm a bit of a lighting snob though, so I go the extra step with the lamp upgrades.

Drawback of the E-code lamps is the flat lenses, obviously not stock.

Those are junk.

Notice no engraving on the lenses indicating any kind of regulatory standard to which they are certified.

These would be my recommendation:

Yeah I looked over on moparts and those Hella lights are HIGHLY recommended from everyone. Need to find a price and knowing Hella, I'm sure they're not cheap

also try the Hamsar people.

I had the 7" prismatic cut in my porsche...they were sweeet, and DOT legal.

they have 5 3/4" too. they're not cheap, but they're really nice.
